Shot this promo back in August on a 5D3. Using a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 and a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 It was professionally graded in Baselight Studio, the colorist was very surprised when he found out what it was shot on. Let me know what you think or shoot a question!

Hello! Here is a short film I shot and directed called "It's My Party" (if you couldn't tell from the big pink letters). I just posted it online Monday and I'm looking for feedback. After my last film which was 20 minutes long and about 10 different locations, I wanted to get back to something more simple that focused on character rather than plot. Hello, I am new to this forum (first post) and beginner filmaker and I will need advice ... Last June I started shooting for my documentary project on the local natural heritage, for now with my own money, so my gear is rather light... I'm shooting with a Canon Eos 70D DSLR, outdoor, and i'm shooting the natural spaces of a valley (along a river). At the start I wanted to film in RAW with Magic Lantern, but with my 70D i'm stuck in 720p (for a continuous recording), so finally i've shot in a compressed way, Mpeg-4 All-I 8bit 4:2:0 @1080p 29.97fps with a picture style (EOSHD C-LOG (0,-4,-4,2)) + Vari ND Filter, hoping to get myself out of it even in post-prod ... But here the quality of the images, in a context of shooting outdoors in shaded places very contrasted (...), do not satisfy me ! So I would like to have advice to achieve a higher quality outdoor shots (natural light)? To illustrate my purpose you can see these few shots that I graded in Resolve + corrections in After Effects: https://vimeo.com/alexandrewebercom/riviereardeche The third shot is particularly ugly ... - Have I "pushed" the mpeg-4 too far by color grading it or is it simply the limitations of this compression? - How do I do with hyper contrast scenes (it was about 14h when shooting)? - Am I condemned to film in RAW whatever the chosen camera (to be able to uncork the blacks or to recover in the whites in post-prod)? - Is it better that I under-expose or over-expose this type of scene? - Can you suggest gear/ configuration more suitable for my use: Camera, Raw / Prores, Log, external recording ... ? Hey guys, just finished this one we shot in 2014 (yeah, that's a long way back). This was my second time using 5dmarkIII and RAW except this time we shot way more material. It's not very good but we got it finished so I guess that counts for something ay? Sorry about the accents, we are from Finland so our english ain't the most natural. Learned a shit ton while doing this. If you have any questions about 5dmarkIII raw, just shoot away. Everything is upscaled to 4k here.

This summer as well I get opportunity to visit my friends back home in Lithuania. I got very nice memories from my previous visit last year and I was happy to visit them again at Gelgaudis, at south of Neman (Nemunas) River, Lithuania. Despite bad weather we spend a wonderful time. Got some shorts memories from there. Thank you for watching Little bit about technical site. First time I used completely only hacked software from my Canon 5D mark III, called Magic Lantern. All videos were captured at RAW (MLV files transfered to DNG) and time-lapses were done using Silent Pictures mode from Magic Lantern. Also first time I used new transfer method. 1) MLV video files 2) transfer to Cinema DNG 3) Open with Davinci Resolve 4) change color settings decode using: clip and Color space: BMD film. (to get flat picture look) 5) Transfer to DNxHD 444 6) Import and Edit and color correction done with Adobe Premiere CC 2015 using new LUMETRI color correction update. Summary: results are fabulous and saved me a lot of time. New adobe update: LUMETRI color correction is lifesaver. Music by: Jon Hopkins - The River Cheers

Hi, I shot this video in Dolomites, Italy, in Marmolada mountain area during 8 days vacations. Filmed on a Canon 5D Mark III entirely in Magic Lantern raw format (mlv) 1920x1080. I used Komputerbay 64GB 1000x and Sandisk extreme pro 32GB memory cards. Nexto DI ND2730 500GB photo storage device was super helpful with archiving those lots amount of data in the field. Most of the shots were made with canon 16-35mm f2.8 L II but canon 100mm f2.8 L Macro was also used. Smooth shots were made with Glidecam HD2000. Regarding Magic Lantern - i had absolutely no problem with it in the field. It worked brilliantly, had some few minor crashes but nothing to worry about. Huge amount of data is no problem when you have a device like nextodi or similar with you. Copying 64GB card takes about 8-10 minutes so if you have two cards (i had 64 and 32GB) you can shoot almost continuosly. Please tell me what you think.

Hi! I'm new to the forum, and a recent purchaser of the EOSHD 5D3 RAW video ebook which has been great thank you very much! I learned about Cineform from the book, and at first glance it seems like a huge boon: smaller file sizes, fewer post production steps etc. But today after converting my first full 5D3 RAW video shoot with Cineform, I noticed it didn't seem to be as sharp as I expected. Let me briefly explain my old and new workflow and perhaps someone can tell me if I'm doing anything wrong: Old workflow: - Copy ML RAW video files to HDD - Point Rawanizer to the folder and batch convert all clips into a DNG sequence using the dcraw option - Import the DNG sequence into Adobe After Effects, using Adobe Camera Raw to apply some general grading, colour correction, sharpness etc - Drop the import into a composition and scale the composition to suit the length of the clip - Export to a DNxHD "DNX 120 1080p 25" encoded .mxf file - Import all .mxf files into Premiere for editing New workflow: - Copy ML RAW video files to HDD - Point Rawanizer to the folder and batch convert all clips into .avi files with the Cineform option (-422 parameter for the free version) - Import all .avi files into Premiere for editing - Apply grading and sharpening in Premiere As you can see, the new workflow has fewer steps, and I end up with much smaller files, which is great. But even before I apply sharpening to the DNGs in the old workflow, those images are FAR sharper than the ungraded Cineform files. It almost looks like the files are 720p not 1080p. I've attached a photo illustrating the dramatic difference. The Cineform is on the left, and the DNG is on the right. The DNG has had no processing done to it, this is how it looks with all ACR sliders set to their defaults. Can anyone help? Thank you!

5dmkIII raw (converted to LOG-C and then rec709): Sony a7s (cine 4 - color, saturation and contrast dialed down -1, then gamma lowered and shadows raised a bit in FCP X): My thoughts are that the a7s can give you some nice skin tones and balanced color if you don't try to do S-LOG 2. I consider midday sun to be a challenging environment for 8-bit cameras, as the color can easily become washed out and desaturated. I find that I need as much saturation from the camera as possible (without clipping) before processing. Then I lower the gamma a bit in post and lift the shadows in order to give it more of a filmic shadow response. What you can't do with the a7s in my experience is extreme shadow recovery like this backlit shot:

It seems like they are still working out some bugs, but it's good news. It has been out for a few days now, but I have not seen anyone else talking about it so I figured that it warranted its own thread.

Hey gang, noob here. I am trying to install ML on my 5D Mark III using the RAW Shooting Guide from EOSHD. I'm following the instructions, but when I get to step 2 of the ML install (installing the nightly build), I get the message that the update file cannot be found. I've tried different cards, and same thing. If there is another thread on this, I apologize. Just point the way. Otherwise, anyone have any advice?
