  1. Here's a new music video I directed, shot, graded and edited recently, for the Finnish punk/thrash metal band RiESA (Loosely translates to Burden). It's in Finnish, but I find it quite interesting even if you're not well versed in Finno-ugric languages. Their new album is a concept album, depicting a protectivist, totalitarian state controlled by a single dictator, and led by fear and propaganda. This gave us a nice opportunity to play with some 1984-like imagery and I'm quite happy with the end result. We did the video in essentially two days, with one day spent building the sets (the whole thing was shot in a basement of a local office) and one day of shoot. The interrogation room was mostly lit with practicals, with fluorescent tubes on the background and some IKEA spotlights lighting the posters. Only cinema lights used were two Aputure LED panels with diffusers used as fill lights. The jail cell was lit with one overhead 300W Fresnel and a 650W fresnel right outside the door to give us some heavy volumetric light. The propaganda scene was done simply with a home theatre video projector playing a video loop I prepared beforehand. I shot the whole video using modern EF lenses but with a Cokin P Pastel filter. It's one of my favourite diffusion filters as it gives a gorgeous bloom effect on light sources without eating too much into microcontrast or fine detail. You can see this if you watch the video in 4K, some of the skin detail is pretty astounding imho. And, not to sound like a Blackmagic fanboy, but I have to say the Ursa Mini delivered in spades, again. It's a fine workhorse. Visually the biggest downside is the youtube compression, which introduces banding, even here where the original image has some added film grain. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, and if you guys have any questions about the production I'm happy to elaborate
  2. Wanted to showcase my latest album with a song fitting the 80s and what better way than a slot car racing track. Doesn't get any more 80s than that. Looked up a guy with a Scalextric slot card track and brought over my A6000,the kit-lens, the 50mm 1.8m two cheap LED lights and some blue gels and got to work. Lit everything so it would look like moonshine on a clear night and just got the angles. Edited in PP and stabilized. Some grading needed but no noise reduction used. Everything is handheld including the POV, although that took some DIY to get right.
  3. Shot vertically to capture more resolution during green screen work (in my living room with two LED panels of the cheapest kind). Main song hook recorded in one take although there's a cut-away in the edit during the bridge of the song. Sony A6000 with the 55mm 1.8. Tunnel shots done on Panasonic GH2 and severe editing in After Effects for the light beams with text.
  4. 'Get Free' shot for French alternative rock outfit Kids From Atlas. POV shots of viewfinder of old twin reflex were done with DIY wooden rig (see photos) with a6000 and old Carl Zeiss Flektogon 2,4/35. The close focusing capabilities of that lens (20cm) made it a great match for FOV and distance. The rest shot on the FS700 with speedbooster and Canon glass. Contrary to popular belief, inspiration for opening shots of naked man, awakening in a strange house were not based on this director's personal experience...
  5. I shot a music video on the a7s for a friend over the holiday. A few weeks ago I finished the edit and I'm looking for feedback. This was really the first time I've attempted a music video and the first time I have ever really played with speed ramping and I had a blast doing it. I would really like to do more of these.
  6. Please have a look at a music video I made for the musician Carla Bozulich, for her song Gonna Stop Killing. I used a Canon 5D Mark III, with Magic Lantern for RAW shooting. Zeiss lenses used: 35/1.4, 50/2, 100/2. http://vimeo.com/116440492 Enjoy!
  7. Wanted to share: I just recently shot this new music video by Bay Area musician Jeff Campbell, "Save Me," shot on the Canon 70D with only the help of tripods and a monopod. Black and white, flares galore. The camera was great, through and through. Had much tighter focus than my 7D. Have a watch:

  10. Hi, I shot this on eos m. I used 22 STM, 50 1.8 nikkor, and 35 1.8 nikkor. Used fcpx to edit motion for graphics and nest video to remove noise. My friend record mix and create all music using logic. Not at all comparable to any of your guys video so I would appreciate any pointer. Thanks!
  11. Hey everyone! Just wanted to share some stills from music video i'm workin on. My first video to be exact. Gonna finish it real soon i hope, there's only a bit of live action left to shoot but i got a lot of other things goin on so... I'll try to upload some footage later this week. Everything shot on 5Dmk3 ML RAW using raw2cdng processed in AE CS6 and partly in Resolve Lite. The video is for russian metal band called "Reborn" (song called "Your Life Beats In Hands"), they realising their first album later this year, so if you like this kind of music they totally worth hearing.   A little loop - http://coub.com/view/mo1hux2

  15. Hey all,   We recently finished this music video and wanted to share with you.  Shot mostly on the FS100 with a few pickup shots on the NEX-5n.  One of the biggest challenges and disappointments was how the camera performed in the club scene.  The internal codec falls apart whenever there is a flash of bright color (or rapidly changing color) as there is likely not enough bandwidth to represent the varying information using the inter-frame compression.  Surprisingly, there is very little info on this (we've researched before shooting).  An outboard recorder would have been really beneficial in this case.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video:   http://vimeo.com/66481687   Cheers!   Alex
  16. Hey guys I'm new to the forum. I didn't see a section to introduce myself so I guess I'll just share a video!   A little tl:dr story about me, I started off as an amateur photographer until someone asked me if I could do a video for them. Warning them that I never shot video, I did it anyway while applying my photography knowledge into video. The result is me selling my 40D to get a 60D lol. First one I did was back in August 2012.   The person that asked me is the same one I just finished my recent video for. He goes by Sizzle and is a hip-hop artist.   Gear info: Canon 60D Sigma 30mm 1.4 Canon 50mm 1.8 Flycam Nano Neewer CN-160 on a lightweight monopod   I don't know many editing softwares except Sony Vegas Pro 12. The photographer in me tells me to try to get it right in camera and not rely on Photoshop. Well, in this video you won't see special effects to try to make it fancy lol although I'd like to learn them one day to have in my arsenal.   http://youtu.be/RYTmwl3w_eE   Views are around 31k in his channel, got there in less than a month. This is my third music video. CC welcome. All my videos thus far have been on other music websites (not like MTV or BET or anything lol) so the feedback so far from fans have been great. The only CC I get are from fellow videographers lol.   Also, Like my page if you want :) I try to update it with other video projects I'm doing but also sharing photography/videography stuff/news. I currently have at least four other music videos pending. But with school and all I can't really get to them yet. https://www.facebook.com/MAVPMedia
