    Chicken

So all summer I've bene working on this short film, which is in the Sound Design/ADR/VFX/Scoring stage right now. It's the first really "serious" (as in made with the intention of submitting to festivals and not just dumped online) project I've done since my first feature film way back in 2009-2010. Chicken is a horror comedy about a woman named Brenda, who has fallen on hard times financially, and is working as a mascot sign dancer for a chicken fast food restaurant, Wally's Chicken. But her boss, Steve, is a pill-popping abusive lunatic who bullies and pushes her to perform up to the standard of the former beloved mascot, who has recently passed away. As the stress of her job mounts, Brenda begins to believe she is being stalked by Chicken mascot. Here are a few grabs: From the fake crappy local commercial that opens the film. The signs of the restaurant we filmed at still need to be replaced. Guinevere P.H. Dethlefson as Brenda Brandon Nebitt as Steve. Shot ont he Sony a6300 with mostly the Rokinon 16mm, and occasionally the Canon FD 35-105mm 3.5 zoom. It should be complete by the end of the year, and probably premiere next year. I may even share a private link here before it's premiere if there is any interest. Here's a little glimpse of some sign dancing:
  2. Hey all, I'm looking to shoot a narrative short film with controlled lighting early next year and am thinking about shooting it on my original BMPCC... I know, I know. No 4K, terrible low-light, and horrible battery life. But if 1080p was fine, controlled lighting throughout, and an external battery solution, is it better for me to use the original and cancel my 4K pre-order? I could use the money saved to pay for an additional cine prime/actually pay actors a decent wage... What would be the advantages in this case of using the 4K over the original?
  3. Whores'n'Heroes A short comment about the situation in Thailand. A film by Jaquet Music: glantz.cortez Used gear: Sony A7S M2 Leica M 135mm, F2.8 Nikon 20mm AIS, F2.8 Mostly shot in sensor crop mode with 100/120 fps and sensor stabilization. No sticks. Hand-held. Picture Profile: cine4, S-Gamut3.Cine Edited in Premiere Pro CC. Graded with Lumetri (Deluts) and Filmconvert. Noise reduction with NeatVideo in AE CC. Thanks for a lot of useful information on this blog. Enjoy!!
  4. Hi, Thought i would share a short film, that i have worked on for some time, as the technical side of the production might interest someone here You can see the film here. http://www.ekkofilm.dk/shortlist/film/nem-dating/ There are no subtitles, but the synopsis is this: A young high school student gets an after hours job, to pay for a trip around the world with his girlfriend. The job is as a promoter for an online dating site, where he writes to girls there, to keep them as subscribers of the site. One day he realises, that one of the girls are someone close to him, and he tries to make things okay again. The film was shot over a week, and we mainly used the GH5. The camera is awesome and i loved the stabilization function, although it sometimes gave us trouble. We where mostly shooting with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 for canon and a focal reducer, and as this is an aps-c lens, it vignettede on the GH5. That is not so much of a problem, but when the camera was on a shoulder-mount also, it would counteract the internal image stabilizer, and the vignette would "bounce" around. So we found out to either use the camera handheld og turn the is of. Also we could use the ex teleconverter function, this lessened the vignette somewhat. We also used a canon 24-70 L 2.8 lens, and when using this, there where no problems with the bounching vignette, as it is a full frame lens. For lightning we mainly used Yongnuo led light and some Aputures. They worked great, but the aputures are imo a lot better for color reproduction. For sound, we had a Røde ntg1 connected to a Tascam 60d. It was okay, but the ntg1 has a lot of hiss, and really needs to be close to the talent or have a stronger preamp. On the tascam, don't use the highest gain option, it's really noisy. I picked the Gh5 over an ursa mini pro for the film, as i could set it up more quickly, the battery would last longer and we didn't have to carry so much gear, which was important, as for the most time the crew constisted of myself on camera and directing, a sound-recordist and a gaffer/lightning guy. In the editing fase, we had to tweak the colors a lot, especially skin tones took a lot of time to get right, as they where a bit read of camera. But, as we filmed in v-log 10 bit, it was not a problem. I have also shot 8 bit footage with the camera, and the image falls apart when doing any grading in v-log, and i dont like the other profiles. I have read some people cant see the difference between 10 og 8 bit, and neither can i. But when you grade them, there is a huge difference, i would not use buy the gh5 if it did not have v-log and 10bit. In low light i was also supprised how good the image looked, but i am not so afraid of noise. The camera is great in low light, as long as you have a small amount of light on the subject, like a bedside lamp or something. If there is no light, the camera dont look good, but i dont like those kind of images anyway. I have attached some images also, but check the film out, as the stills don't do the footage justice.

  6. Hi everybody, I'm here to share my test film of the GH5s. Everything was shot with a flashlight and bounced with reflector. ISO 3200, Nikon lens 50mm f1.8
  7. Well hello there EOSHD forum readers, I've just posted my short film, Axiomatic, to Vimeo. Shot with an older version of the 5D3 Raw hack without the audio component - remember when we had to reload the Raw modules each time after restarting the camera? Ah well...it still worked flawlessly and I cannot thank all the ML developers enough for what they unlocked. 5D3 raw is simply amazing. Spanish, French and English subtitles are available for whomever needs them and viewer discretion may be advised as there is brief nudity, violence and coarse language. However I tried to make everything as tasteful as possible. Hopefully you can take some time out of your busy day to view it and please feel free to share it with any of your friends or contacts that might enjoy some dark Canadian cinema. 8. Hi there, I just uploaded the final teaser trailer to my short film based on the Australian novelist Greg Egan short story of the same name: Axiomatic teaser_3 Thanks to @mercer for his suggestions on the edit for it. I've love any forum readers and indie film fans to check it out and let me know what they think. The full short will premier online next week so stay tuned if you'd like to know more.
  9. Hello! Here is a short film I shot and directed called "It's My Party" (if you couldn't tell from the big pink letters). I just posted it online Monday and I'm looking for feedback. After my last film which was 20 minutes long and about 10 different locations, I wanted to get back to something more simple that focused on character rather than plot. Anyway, if you have a few minutes check it out and let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy it! Mike

  11. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071S8DH6F/ Passion project titled GODDAMMIT. Typical of many passion projects, I wore many hats. Directed by Ryan Moser Writing Credits Ryan Moser Keaton S. Ziem Produced by Jason Antico Rob Goldman Ryan Moser Keaton S. Ziem Cinematography by Ryan Moser Film Editing by Ryan Moser Editorial Department Ryan Moser ... colorist Sound Department Jason Downer ... sound designer / sound editor / sound recordist Music by Twilight In Versailles Grading System: DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Location: Los Angeles, CA USA Camera: Samsung NX1 Format: UHD H265 Type: Short Film Duration: 7 minutes Workflow: Much of this project was achieved with an arduous amount of time and energy spent in pre-production. Before production, I personally inquired and received helpful information from this very site. Camera and lighting choices were tested and nitpicked down to the finest minutiae. The compositing work was achieved in After Effects and had a final assembly within DaVinci Resolve. A lot of the latest features and FX within Resolve such as glows, etc. really elevated the overall look of the project.
  12. Here's my new short film, shot on the Sony a6000 with Canon FD Lenses. Harold is having a birthday party for himself. The only problem: he doesn't have any friends. Here's a bonus video I made with leftover footage:
  13. This is one of 27 films I shot over four days using my new Canon C100 Mark II. It's my first time directing, shooting and editing short films. And to do 27 of them in a short space of time with not much prep was very challenging! Shot CLOG handheld with the 17-55mm f2.8 IS. Two softboxed lights at different positions depending on the camera angle. Wish I had done more continuous shots to make the editing easier.
  14. Hey Guys! I wanted to show you a short film I shot on the Sony A6000. A great video camera on a budget in my opinion It is my first short film, and it was all shot and edited in one day, I didnt have more time. Lenses I used were the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8, Helios 44-2 and a cctv 35mm 1.7 Hope you Guys enjoy it ! Please let me know what you think about it I shot it for the Sony professional competition, so if you enjoy it, please like it on youtube. thanks !! Cheers from Germany Micha
  15. Hi all, so in the same vein as a previous post in this forum. Here's another video for the Sony No Limits competition! Be awesome if you guy could give this a watch... And a like if you like it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Brvi7Zv-F2o&feature=youtu.be In exchange for your time and patience for my blatant self promotion I am more than happy to answer any and all questions you have of my experience shooting footage with the A7rii. I use it as my main camera for all my work. I still have a Canon 5dmkiii as backup but that'll soon be replaced with an a7sII when funds allow! To give you a little breakdown of this particular film, main lenses and equipment used: Sony A7rii ( 4k Slog-2 )Sony FE 55mm 1.8 SonnarSony FE 28mm f2Tamron 24-70mm 2.8 ISCanon 70-200m 2.8 ii ISSigma ART 35mm 1.4Metabones IV AdaptorDJI Ronin-MBackacheAtomos Ninja AssassinIt was shot, edited, graded by myself. More info on a blog post: http://www.alexpasquini.com/blog/2015/10/30/no-limits-a-short-film-for-the-sony-fs5-competition Again, apologies for the blatant self promotion but as said i'm more than happy to share any experience if anyone is interested, cheers!
  16. Hello everyone! I'm a french film school student (however we don't practice often it's just mainly theoretical courses and film analysis) and we had recently to create a short fiction (we were to do around 7 shots). We had the plan with my teammate to explore an old abandoned coal washing facility and decided to make something with it, so here it is! Sound is important so play it loud Now some explanation. I don't have a lot of money, and our school doesn't have any gear to loan, so we made it a 0$ budget short ahah (well the only thing we paid for was the gas mask). For the prep we had only a few days, so we thought of a story, and we only did the storyboard for the first half of the short (until he enters the factory), as we didn't know what it looked like inside, and we had to improvise on set. It was really run'n'gunning as we only had 9h on location, and some shots are quite rushed... I shot it with a sony a6000 in AVCHD, with for the most part in exterior the sony 18-105G F4, then in interior the Sony 35mm F1.8 OSS and a Leica Summicron 90mm F2 (pre-asph, which I found in my dad's old camera gear). For the lighting setup we used an outdoor LED floodlight (which is what the actor is holding inside the factory) and a 200*160 5in1 reflector to bounce some light back. I edited everything and made the soundtrack on Sony Vegas, then graded everything on DaVinci Resolve Lite. I'm kinda in a love-hate relationship with it haha, during the edit and post-prod there was some moment I just wanted to delete everything, and I was noticing every little mistake or imperfections, but considering the time limitation, budget the result is fairly ok, and initial feedback was good so I wanted to share it more with people working in this field! I'd love any advice or feedback from you!

  18. Hey guys, Here is a link to a short film a friend and I made: I'd appreciate any kind of feedback from you guys concerning the film. "Death is an appointment we cannot avoid. The one we most regret." - Unknown Directed by: Jesse Tugas Cinematography: Gino Woulard Actor: Mitchell Camps Equipment: Sony A7s DJI Ronin Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 Rokinon 16mm f/2 Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Canon 40mm f/2.8 Special thanks to Dan Harris ** Academy of Art University Flashpoint Film Festival Cinematic Storytelling Winner
  19. This was done couple of years ago. The whole thing was written, filmed and edited in about 3 weeks time so everything was in a rush. Some shots are pretty bad, editing is not really all there and some cheesy dialogue. I was embarrassed to show this to people so I didn't really put it out but I guess bad feed back is better than no feedback so here it is. Any comments are welcome thank you. Filmed on Canon 60D / Sigma 30mm f1.4 / Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 / Tokina 11-16mm f2.8
  20. It's the last day of summer in rural Illinois, 1967. A boy lays alone in the dirt. Trying to catch his breath, sweat rolling down his face, he remembers a recent encounter with two other boys. As the conversation unfolds we slowly realize who we are seeing and why he's alone.
  21. Just a short fashion film I shot during a photoshoot the other day. Its pretty much the first real thing I have shot with my anamorphic lens, mainly due to its lack of run and gun ability, but I found with the 35-70 things worked out pretty smoothly. Never had to swap out lenses and it performs very well. I did not use the new firmware update photo mode. Mostly 48 & 60 fps Let me know what you think?! (Ive got a 15second version on my page too)
  22. Hey guys, just finished my reel for 2014, let me know what you think!
  23. Elise is a very short horror film that we shot during halloween! Enjoy!!
  24. This is a trailer for my new short film which will be getting it's first screening on July 17th. I shot this entirely on two BMPCCs both with speed boosters. I hope you all like it! Trey
  25. Here's some vacation footage that I turned into a semi-narrative. My friend composed an original score.
