    Surf Video GH4

I do a lot of sports and surf videos and this is a recent one I did in the westcoast of Auckland. GH4 really help you in this fast paced run and gun situation where you need to change things fast and adapt to the environment. The small sensor size is actually a positive factor in sports as well because of the crop factor and deeper focus plane. Landscape shots were shot in 4K then scaled. Vintage Contax, Pentax lenses were used.
  4. Hey - Recently just bought the GH4 and was looking at some Rokinon and SLR Magic lenses. I was wondering if I should get them MFT mount or purchase a speed booster and get the EF mount? I am assuming the crop factor will decrease if I get the EF and speed booster but the fact that I won't have to use a adapter with the MFT is great. Just want to get some thoughts on this? Also can anyone recommend other primes that are great with the GH4? Thanks
  5. Sorry if this has been asked, but I cannot find it with search. I have a speedbooster for Nikon glass on mFT that I use on my GH3. I'm considering a used BMPCC camera and just wanted to check that the speedbooster is OK for this. I have read there is a special BMPCC version, but not sure what is the difference. If I cannot use the speed booster the BMPCC is not so interesting. Got to love the IQ of the camera though! Thanks in advance.
  6. Some other day I found this lens on ebay and did a little research. There are some photos out there that impressed me but I found only one video. To me the "look" seems great on stills. Does anyone here have some experience with this lens and would like to see some opinions about the combo mentioned in the title. Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad english
  7. Greetings, I am looking for some banter on the topic of using native m43 lenses vs. a SpeedBooster + lenses Maybe you could provide both technical and anecdotal feedback on the following situations: 1. Video work - Narrative 2. Video work - Documentary 3. Photography In each domain you would discuss the Pros and Cons of native m43 lenses vs. SpeedBooster + lenses I just got my GH4 and thinking about either getting a speed booster and working with my current line of lenses: -Tamron 17-50 2.8 -Canon 50 1.8 -Samyang 85 1.4 OR Sell them all and use the cash to buy native m43 lenses. A third option would be to keep them and slowly add native lenses. I personally do both photography and video and selling my 5d3 to pay for new lenses or speed booster. Thanks in advance!
  8. Testing out the new Metabones Speedbooster Canon EF -> m43. Really loving it, and working with Sigma ART lenses it just sings! I really want that shallow depth of field look, and it works a treat. Of course it's really hard to focus at F1, worse using a vari-ND filter too (vignette and darkening of the corners at the highest setting). Paired with the SLR Magic Anamorphot it has a great look!
  9. hello everyone, i just bought myself the Panasonic LA7200. and i'm shooting on a GH2 with the speedbooster adapter. i'm considering of buying these canon FD lens but afraid it might not work; Canon FD 17mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.8 can anyone with experience of these combination share some advise? thanks.
  10. hi guys, i started a vimeo channel dedicated to my anamorphic test with LA7200 and GH2, speedbooster and CANON FD lens. https://vimeo.com/channels/anamorphictest Do feel free to take a look and comment. Thanks, Chin
  11. Hi guys. So let's say in theory if Metabones brought out a EF lens mount specifically for the GH4 with electronics, which I'm about to buy), and we lived in this universe.... I'm going to make the move from TV documentary editing/shooting into directing short films, more commercials, more music videos/ and a step up to a documentary DV director. That sort of thing. I'm planning on getting the GH4, with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 as my first lens, as it is by all accounts a very high quality lens and would fit me perfectly for most situations. So... do I buy the GH4 with a speed booster with a nikon mount, and a nikon mount Sigma? Or do I wait for a possible soon to be released metabones speedbooster for the GH4, EF mount with electronics etc and a canon mount Sigma? I'd like your (much more knowledgable about DSLR's) guys opinions?! If I got the GH4, with a speed booster, which glass is the wise to invest in? I don't have a lot of money to spend on lenses in the near future, so I'd rather cheap quality glass in general. Canon/Nikon mounts? Which one in general is cheaper for a high level of quality? Which is just the best in general for someone like me? Who wants to start shooting low budget short films and features? Also what's the actual benefit of a EF mount with proper electronics? Does it just mean that I could use the autofocus feature on the GH4 with the Canon lenses? Any other benefits? Would it mean that lenses with image stabilisation would work on the canon lenses while on the GH4, and an imaginary speed booster which would allow such a thing?
  12. Hello I'm trying to figurate what lens are the best for me. Art Director and Visual Effect Artist with more than 10 years of experience. I want to enter in the film directions realms and buying a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera for start, and need advice for lens for videoclips and short films mainly, to archive the best cinematography quality possible. Budget $3000 top for cover all the lens range, (no run and gun, no vintage lens ... from now) This are my options: Option A: $2530 Metabone SpeedBooster (SB) for BMPCC: $490 24mm: Samyang 24mm T1.5 Cine Lens for Nikon F $700 35mm: Samyang 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens for Nikon F $520 50mm: NIKON 50MM F1.4 AIS: $470 85mm: Samyang 85mm T1.5 Cine Lens for Nikon F $350 _________________________________ Option B: $2621 Metabone SpeedBooster for BMPCC: $490 SLR Magic 12mm 1.6 $600 Sigma 18-35 1.8 $855 Tamron 28-75 2.8 $676 Total: $2621 _________________________________ Option C: $2170 Sigma Zoom 14-35 $855 Sigma 24-70mm $825 Metabone SpeedBooster for BMPCC: $490 _________________________________ Lens Discarted: Samyang 10mm Is not Yet in the market :( Pana 18-35 - Barrel Distortion Tokina 11-16 Blurry Edges with SB What options you think is better for me ?, Do I miss some lens focal for the bmpcc or something else ?? Please Help!
  13. Hello everybody! New to the forums. I am about to buy the GH4 but I have a question that was probably posed already (I just couldn<t find the answer). I own a 5D MK II and these are the lenses I have: Sigma 70-200 1.8 - Canon 17-40mm - Rokinon 85 mm - Tamron 28-75mm. I would like to know if it is possible to use them with a speedbooster (on the GH4) AND keep the autofocus option that comes with the GH4. If it is possible at all, which speedbooster? Thanks in advance for your help!
  14. I had my GH4 with me Friday night at a concert and shot some semi low light footage. Most shots are C4K scaled to HD with a 2.35:1 crop. A few shots are FHD 60p slowed down. Shot in Cinelike D -5,-5,-5,-5. Graded with FilmConvert. You might see a few strobing lights due to dimmed LED's on stage. It showed up no matter what shutter speed I used. Overall I'm loving it.
  15. Last week I finished a short film that we shot on the GH3 with the Speed Booster. I thought it's maybe interesting for you guys to hear and see how it holds up in the field. At first I received a faulty Speed Booster, but the 2nd one worked great. It feels solid and well designed, although there is a little 'play' on the camera mount side. Nothing to worry about though. It makes my lenses wider and better. There is some purple fringing though at low light shots when pointing at a light source, but this is only at very large apertures. The lenses are perfectly usable at high apertures in 'normal' situations with the Speed Booster. It didn't hold me back while I was shooting with it, so that's great. I see no increase or decrease in sharpness without pixel peeping. Simply to say, it's ignorable and you can shoot safely :) To answer a previous question. The Speed Booster works great with the Samyang 16mm f2.0. It acts as an 11mm FOV and there is no vignetting! (well I do have some vignetting, but that's because I use a variable ND filter with a smaller filter thread that the one of my lens) I'm a real fan of the Samyang primes. I have the 16mm f2.0 / 35mm f1.4 / 85mm f1.4. They feel and look solid and professional. Image quality is great. Usuable wide open, but really good stopped down 1 - 2 stops. Thanks to the Speed Booster I love my GH3 even more now. With a crop factor of around 1.4x, it's comparible to a S35 sensor. So I now have the 6 most used focal lenghts (with normal adapter / speed booster), an effective s35 sensor when I need it and all the good stuff and quality that I'm used to from the GH3. Maybe you guys are interested in the short film. It's a short comedy film (5 min) and is, with a few exceptions, shot with the Speed Booster. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wdTVhlhzm8&hd=1 Would love to hear your opinions about it :) Hope I could help and thanks for watching.
  16. With this recent price drop in BMCC, buying a 2.5K camera seems relevant again. Especially since it has one extra stop of dynamic range over the 4K version, and with the metabones speedbooster it actually has similar form factor regarding the DOF. And It could be a great B cam once you decide to get a 4K version (or if finances are low, get a pocket version as a B cam for 2.5K) Now my question is, would I need to buy a metoabones speedbooster for each of my lens types as I have contax yashica, Leica, Nikon, EF, etc... (which would be extremely expensive), or could I only get the EF to MFT version (once it comes out) and use the C/Y, Leica, etc... to EF adapter? Thanks a lot for your responses.
  17. Ok, so after receiving my adaptor a few weeks ago... I've created an unscientific review of the Lens Turbo for Canon FD on my nex 7 http://themartist.com/lens-turbo-canon-fd-review/   If you don't feel like reading the review, the bottom line is I am happy with it... even though It appears that those with more pixel peeping prowess are confirming that its inferior to the speedbooster. I still see many advantages using it for stills,  but I'm sure that the benefits may be even more useful for video purposes. This bring me to two main questions.   1. If there are any specific shots, or methods you'd like me to test either stills or video on the Lens Turbo - please let me know and I'll do my best. I have a canon fd 50mm 1.4 and 20mm 2.8 for the lens turbo.    2. What positive/negative impact will the speedbooster or lens turbo have on going the anamorphic route? What type of setup would be best, and how would one be able to have a nice compact (ish) setup to match the Nex's diminutive benefits. The dream is having an affordable small full-frame in the nex that is easy to travel with and may shoot some awesome anamorphic footage.    Appreciate any input or questions from either Andrew or the rest of you guys.
  18. https://vimeo.com/63187130   A first-person travelogue of my trip to Miami for the Ultra Music Festival. I flew out there with some friends from Vegas as a last-minute adventure.   The festival basically overtakes Miami for a couple weeks, turning the already lurid city into an EDM-fueled fever dream. My goal was to capture the surreal and seductive experience of navigating it all: glowstick playgrounds by night, bathwater beaches by day, lobster restaurants by streetlight, and the feeling that I might wake up at any moment.   Music by M83 and Helios
  19. I popped out the lens of an old pair of eyeglasses and held it in front of the camera lens shooting wide open at 50mm f/1.4.  Pretty cool effect. Got the idea from Stephan Kot on Vimeo.   https://vimeo.com/61388631
  20. Hi, just wanted to start a topic about using 3rd party lenses with the Metabones Speed Booster.  Their website warns about the possibility of some lenses having protruding rear elements that could scratch the adapter or short out the electrical connections.   I don't yet own any EF lenses, so I'm currently using a Rainbow Imaging Nikon to EF adapter.  The lenses I've tried with this are:   - 50mm f/1.8 pancake (all manual)   - 24mm f/2 AIS (all manual)   Camera is a Sony NEX-5n.   After my first day of trials, this combo works fine.  My caveats so far:   - The Nikon adapter tends to stick to the lens, requiring a manual depress of the delicate release lever in order to unscrew it from the lens.  So I'm just buying another Rainbow Imaging adapter and plan on leaving it on the lens all the time.   - The lens focuses a bit past infinity.   Other than that, I'm really enjoying the Speed Booster and see no image degradation.  Will be posting sample videos soon.   Anyone else tried other lenses?
