Hey guys, hope this is okay! We're the Aputure Lighting team and have been working on a lot of educational tutorials lately on how to shoot on-location and in different settings. This week we did an episode at a Jail Set and did recreations of famous jail scenes. The idea is to break down quick and simple lighting setups and start getting the online creator community to think a little outside the box of 3-point lighting. Would love to hear what you think. Happy to answer any questions. And if you like the episode, we're always happy to take requests for episodes or other tutorials you'd like to see. - Nerris from the A-Team

This is a BIG deal Folks! No more burning the hell out of your self alone is worth it, not counting female models melting in front of your eyes! https://***URL not allowed***/relamp-led-replacement-halogen-lights/

Well he does have some good points. It is pretty much about creating shadows, and sometimes the lack of them. http://nofilmschool.com/2017/04/watch-you-can-light-whole-movie-single-lightbulb

Hi, I my last video i did a Star Trek transporter effect. It's pretty basic and i would like to create something like the transporter of the Franklin in Star Trek Beyond in my future videos. I would love to get feedback on my video quality and what would you add. Particulary the lighting is a area i need to work on. My video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4QzdiSrFQU Franklin transporter: http://www.facebook.com/SaucetvAwesome/photos/a.1640382469598402.1073741830.1503065506663433/1640382479598401/?type=3&theater I know there are worlds between my transporter effect and the pro effect from Beyond, but i would like to be able to do it some day. Imagine all the techniques that go in a effect like this. I'm shooting on the GH4 whit the Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH Lens. Thanks for reading Tomaž

I was curious why daylight and tungsten was easier to deal with, especially for skin tones. Looking at the spectral distribution of light, tungsten and real daylight provide a continuous spectrum of light, while fluorescent/CFL produce highly spiked light- not continuous. The good news is that the latest LED lights come very close to tungsten/daylight for continuous spectral light. I've got some low-cost CFLs in 2x3 and 2x2 light rigs: I'm going to replace the CFLs with LED bulbs at around 5000K (probably Cree- thanks for the tip FilmMan!) to match the other ~5000K LED lights I use (currently Z96, YN300, YN600, and F&V R-300). An LED spot in a clamp-on work light will also be handy. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~zhuxj/astro/html/spectrometer.html http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/tests/incandescent-vs-compact-fluorescent-vs-led-ultimate-light-bulb-test#slide-1 (see the spectral charts) (CFL can work OK, but I had to use a tuned camera color profile and make sure WB was set carefully, otherwise trying to fix in post was time consuming).

Cheap CFL bulbs are convenient, efficient and economical - but they typically have a lower Colour rendering index compared to Tungsten based lights and other more expensive lighting systems. Just how much of a difference is there? You decide (additional images/stills on my website: http://www.tommajerski.com/critest.html ) Shot on the BMCC 2.5k in Raw mode. Samyang 35mm 1.4 lens with no ND or filters. White balanced perfectly before the same colour grade was applied in Davinci Resolve 10. Debayered to UHD for better youtube viewing quality. For best results, set it to 4k quality and video on a HD monitor. White balanced exactly to the same point before applying a simple Contrast + Saturation grade. Debayered to 4k for best youtube viewing quality: Select 4k Streaming

I want to see if I can use the time lapse function of my bmpcc to create some stop motion clips. I have googled lighting and I haven't found the information I was looking for. What I am looking for is some inexpensive, flicker free lights. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Brian

Hi guys. I'm a filmmaker that currently shoots with dslrs (Canon t2i & 7D) and i'm looking into purchasing my own lighting kit to light some of my future projects (and slowly move away from renting and borrowing from my friends). I was looking into LEDs because they don't overheat, more lightweight, and generally don't use a lot of power. Any suggestions?

There's always been this one scene with its strong imagery that I just love, from the japanese cult film Tetsuo - The Iron Man: http://youtu.be/EtDmnNAErNc?t=6m2s The shot I'm thinking about is the one with the pulsating light in the close-up of the business man. I'm not too much into lighting myself, so my question is: what light source would you use and how would you go about lighting a pulsating (fading in/fading out) shot like this?

Has anyone tried their hand at filmmaking apps? If yes, which ones did you like, in particular, and, would recommend, to other filmmakers? I have tried a clapboard app, once. It was pretty neat. I also, used the light app, where different colours of light are available, as well as light blinking, at varying speeds. It was great for creating horror effects, and carrying cheap, portable lighting, which was super portable (for super close up, though). I used it on an iPad. I tried Celtx, but, I don't particularly fancy script formatting apps, so, that wasn't for me. I've tried sound effects, and the teleprompter. The teleprompter was great. I've wanted to try using some music making app (garage band, caustic etc), but, I am not too sure, about my ear for music. Also, since I've never really tried my hand at creating music (I learnt how to play the guitar and the synthesizer, as a kid), I am a little unsure. Anyways, I sold my iPad, so, I wanna try apps for my android. Maybe on a smaller phone or phablet size device. Any suggestions?
