GH2 Noise problem?

Hi guys,

I did some test shooting in lowlight and high ISO on my GH2, nothing scientific, just pushing the camera.

I noticed a strange dark pattern on the lower half of my footage on high ISO settings. Exactly the same darker line as this guy gets: https://vimeo.com/19563762

Sometimes it's visible, sometimes not, at ISO 2500 or lower it disappears. Is it a faulty sensor or normal behaviour in low light? I use the EOSHD Unified 88Mbit hack.

From what I gather this is a common issue with the GH2 in lowlight conditions where you are tending to be underexposured. I get it at any ISO but particulary higher ones. Sometimes its very obvious- other times you have to look really hard for it. Filming at 30p or 25p eliminates it completely. Just one of those things!

Thanks a lot! It's really a relief to hear it's quite common. I would've hated it to return my nearly brand new GH2.

Of course I meant to have said 1/25 or 1/30 shutter speed to eliminate this banding!
But no Jon not a fault as such, more a quirk!!

In addition to the slower shutter, using the vibrant color setting helps keeping noise down. And turning off the two "intelligent" modes too.
