FilmMan
Will it be a direct challenge to the Scarlet? Is it a camera? Is it the FS700 upgrade? I'm thinking it is a new camera. Scale down version of the F65? :)
FilmMan
http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/index.php?t=product/sony_thenewf The New F This is our placeholder for TheNewF camcorder from Sony, to be fully revealed on 30th October 2012. It is anticipated that TheNewF could be an updated successor to the PMW-F3 super 35mm camcorder sporting improved 'broadcast friendly' 50Mb/s recording quality and a whole range of other improvements... We're not allowed to disclose exact specifications at the moment, all we can say for sure is that "TheNewF is probably the most exciting product that we can't tell you about"
FilmMan
Yep, one can decipher what is going on? Sony PMW F3 not available any more. Why is RED offering their Scarlet deal? ;) All these barely used Scarlets (used for a few seconds) and needed to be unloaded? Or is Red taking the first shot before the fight begins? Let the speculation run till October 30. Is Canon listening?
FilmMan
Remember the movie: Real Steel? Shot with the F35 cinealta. The picture is amazing. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433035/technical Used $13000 range. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sony-F35-Cinealta-camera-/160872810795 Sony has the know how. Their market share in these high end cameras have taken a hit. As in the Real Steel movie, perhaps Sony can show their power robot? If Sony could offer a top notch 4K video camera in the $10000 to $14000 range, they could take a serious bite out of the competition. Sony has the know how. Canon came out with their C300 and is coming out with their 1DC and C500. Sony has alot to gain if they play this correctly? Take out the Canon 1DC, C500, Red Scarlet with one huge right cross. Will Sony go for it? I'm probably totally in left field.
Germy1979
No one will be able to afford it. Lol... They'll price it for rental and put all of us in the friendzone again. Which at that point...4k, i dunno. They all have their perks. I wouldn't bat an eye using a Scarlet over a 1DC, F4, Whatever.. If i had to rent, i'd say those are all good options. It's the cameras real people can afford to "buy" that need weeded through... My vote's still on the BMC.
FilmMan
If more competition enters, then it affects pricing. Look at how pricing has come down on the high end cameras in the last couple of years. Maybe some camera manufacturer will up the ante as BMC has done so? If not Sony, perhaps JVC or Panasonic or other?
FilmMan
GoPro's catch phrase could have been this: The Future, Ahead of Schedule | October 30, 2012 - Sony's Headline

FilmMan
Wow. F54K. Love the form factor. Sony could have a huge winner here. If this is priced around the $10K to $15K range then they got the market. If they price too high then they compute with the other big boys and dust collects. Disrupt and secure the market especially in these economic times. Only rough numbers below: 1DC price - low $10000 (Australian website) and BH $12999. C300 - $15000 C500 - $30,000 subtract rebate Scarlet - $12000 to $15000 Epic $40000 Does Sony want to kick ass? Pricing will be the key. nahua

They're keeping the F3 in the lineup though apparently.. This camera will probably be a 4k F3 though, and it'll probably be around the cost of a Scarlet. F3's a badass camera still with a Samurai and the 444 hotrod. A lot of people say it's as close to an Alexa as any other camera at that point.. ...but it's still a $10,000 camera, lol.. Go bmc.
