FilmMan
I'm thinking again. Yea, it happens now and then. Leica M video camera. New sensor. Roughly 13 stops of dynamic range. If one looks at the video portion shot with the M (note pre production), it certainly doesn't look like DSLR footage. Sure the image is warm, as Leica lenses shoot warm, but it can be corrected in post. Leica cameras usually have better staying power than most cameras (they don't get hammered as strongly as other cameras in terms of pricing). Look at the trailer for Taken 2 - shot with Arricam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpaT8NzkLgE Look at the trailer for Hunger Games, shot ont he Arricam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMGRhAEn6K0 Look at the Leica: Leica (note pre-production, used only natural light, hand held, could be graded better, probably not the best compression used either, etc.) The image still is very organic. Around the 5:40 the actual video segment begins). It doesn't look like DSLR footage. http://vimeo.com/49464083 Sure it isn't going to be raw, but not everyone needs raw. The camera can also be used to take pictures. I'm curious how robust the final video will be. It could turn out better than people realize. It all boils down to image and what a person wants, and can afford. nahua
FilmMan, thank you for finding all these videos. I too hope that the Leica will be good. I think the picture is good for video, just wish they had a steady demo, not the jerky run-n-gun one the guy shot. I think for locked tripod shots it could be very good. Nice full-frame image with contrast. Be nice to shoot with all that Leica glass!
FilmMan
If Leica does this right, it may give an image very close to film - after grading correctly? Leica glass is awesome.
