chetacallahan
Hey guys, so im waiting for my redstan clamp that should be here any day now but am looking at my setup ( Kowa Bell & Howell and a Helios m42 lens) and comparing it with the gh2 body mount and im a little worried it might need some support. I remember it mentioned somewhere, possibly the anamorphic guidebook but it was quite expensive, but am wondering if there are any cheap support options you guys have found?Much thanks :)
powderbanks
what's your budget? baseplate x 15mm rails for $99 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/875117-REG/IndiPRO_Tools_indi_base_DSLR_Baseplate_15mm_Rods.html lens support for $25 http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-15mm-Lens-Support-Bracket/dp/B007R3Z8OG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354900120&sr=8-1&keywords=15mm+lens+support i got the indipro tools friction follow focus (i need to do some tweaking to get it to work smoother/better) but mostly i use the rail system for supporting my lens. i found something similar to the opteka support and it works just fine crappy pic from my ipod touch, but you get the idea. chetacallahan
Hey guys, thanks for your responses I ended up doing some more searching around and found a cheap solutionHere is a rail setup with adjustable lens support, the 4 reviews it has speaks very highly of the construction qualityhttp://www.amazon.com/Fotga-DP500-Support-System-Matte/dp/B00857R0TE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354902567&sr=8-1&keywords=fotga+500I ended up finding it cheaper on ebay with a matte box herehttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Fotga-DP500-DSLR-Matte-Box-w-15mm-Rail-Rod-Support-for-Follow-Focus-Rig-5DII-60D-/310419572936?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item484672c8c8 I ended up ordering it so ill review it once i get it and let you guys know! Sean Cunningham
If you don't need, or don't want, or can't use a full-on baseplate and rod support there's also the VELBON SPT-1 which I read about on these forums. I've also seen examples of it adapted for use with one of the smaller, DSLR-specific support rails options, for use with follow-focus but still without the bulk of a full baseplate... brucker
i've been using that ^^^ and its nice and compact, and sturdy, and the hardware store has a bunch of brackets that you can use to support a lens if you're tight,... otherwise one of them canon telephoto rings will do the job.
