For stills yes I have used an Eye-Fi Pro X2 to shoot tethered to an iPad 3 running ShutterSnitch. Works well. You cannot use it for shooting video as the data rate is too high.

 

Thanks for the reply, Nigel. I asked, cause I had read a few unflattering reports about wi-fi Data Cards. hmmm ...

I used the Eye-Fi Pro X2 with a Canon 5D3 which has some kind of built-in support for the Eye-Fi card at least it appears in the menu & indicates when it is transmitting. Experiences may be different with a camera that doesn't have this support. I also used it with ShutterSnitch app on the iPad rather than the Eye-Fi app as this was easier to set up. It was straightforward  when connected to a WiFi network but seemed less reliable when set up as an ad hoc network with Eye-Fi card direct to iPad.
