wolf33d
This is totally plausible as Nikon does not have an "EOS line" to protect, and we all agree they have been pushing a little bit in video since last DSLRs (D810 and D750 with specific cine package, flat profile, clean 1080p) so I assume they would bring video killer features on the D5 and then push it down on the other models, it makes sense. Plus they have the A7RII to fight now and 4K is everywhere and if this body is supposed to last 3-4 years they can't go without 4K.Well, if those specs are true that is good news for us because: - It means the next affordable FF (D750, D810) and APSC will have those feature next- It will push Canon. If Sony has 4K but no canikon it's ok cause they try to make Sony look like a spec oriented geek company, but if Nikon has 4K@60 fps and Canon releases 1DXII and 5D4 without 4K, then they will look ridiculous. DBounce
4K/60p makes me think it is someone's wishlist rather than anything concrete. True, only manufacturer I could see pulling this off would be Samsung. jacoblewis
Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
It's 90% sure this camera will be released, even without rumors. The 60P 4K is not going to happen. But yes sure normal 4:2:0 25p 4k at 100mbps max, higher stills burst, slightly higher resolution sensor, more AF points, just natural progression1DXII will be the same, and the 5D IV, 4K but lower than high-end 500mbps 4:2:2 1DC codec for media cost and storage and recording time, they'll need to be 4K recorders easily and lightly without penalties for the casual photographer. This is what I see them going for.
DBounce
Strange isn't it... Samsung tested the NX1 sensor at 6.5k @ 240 fps. I'm pretty certain 4k @ 60 fps would be no problem. So what's with all these other manufacturers? Are they truly this far behind Sammy? IronFilm

Updated list of rumored Nikon D5 specifications Pretty much all of the camera manufacturers could put 4k60p into their cameras if they wanted to, but it would run into issues with the thermal envelope. I don't think we will see 60p in most DSLR forms until lower power processors are developed, and that may be quite a way off. You would probably see it first in manufacturers that have the ability to develop their own silicon rather than buy it from a third party. That pretty much rules Canon and Nikon out IMO (as well as the smaller manufacturers). Sony, Panasonic or Samsung would most likely be the first to do that. Strange isn't it... The sensor can be read at that speed, but the problem is processing all that data and the heat it generates.I think you will find that most sensors currently on the market in high end cameras are capable of being read at that speed. Being read and being able to use what can be read are too completely different things however.
Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
They're not behind sammy, samsung is maxed out at 4K 30p and can't go farther. This is just on the core sensor side, extremely high frame rates are supported but the problem is implementing it in a camera, meaning reading the sensor, sending to processor, applying PP settings, compressing to a codec, recording to media, they take a HUGE amount of power, size, and heat. If samsungs wants to record that 240p 6K signal the sensor can send, the nx1 would need to be at least FS7/C300 size with water-cooling and Fans, plus a much higher price of course due to the much larger stronger hardware/software. wolf33d
Biggest challenge for 4K60p is heat dissipation. D5 is a huge body. If canon could do 4K30p 3years ago in a D5 body (1DC) don't tell me it cannot be 60fps on D5 IronFilm
