redimp
Hey guys. There are bunch of topics about this on these forums, but all the options discussed there are over my budget. I see a bunch of chinese field monitors and I'm pretty sure there's one that can display image with custom ratio. I'm going to need to shoot 2x anamorphic, also 1:1 ratio from time to time. I don't care about weight or battery type, just ability to use custom ratios with BMPCC and low price. Any brands I should look at?
samuel.cabral
I'm not sure about the aspect ratios with the Neway monitor, but they are very good for the price they are charging.
Grimor
i use the neway for 1.33x desqueeze and works well in "extrusion mode"
rzxrey
DP4, DP6, Shogun, Ninja Assassin are just a few that I know of.
redimp
DP4, DP6, Shogun, Ninja Assassin are just a few that I know of. Those are way too pricey for a amateur.i use the neway for 1.33x desqueeze and works well in "extrusion mode"Can you change the de-squeeze factor to a custom one? What exact model do you have? It seems like the cheapest option so far and I am thinking about it.
Caleb Genheimer
AC7 was the best I could find. Not as inexpensive as the chinese options, but you get what you pay for. If you want niche pro features like desqueezing 2X and cropping it to 2.40, you have to pay for it. If you don't have a monitor now, the AC7 is a good long-term investment and very useful in most situations, even if you aren't shooting scope. redimp
I have decided to go with this on 11.11. $318 sounds fair for completely custom image ratio. Free shipping too.
rook
Please post a little review once you get it and test it out. I'd love to hear your impressions. Would you like to see the unboxing too?

redimp
No, just curious how it performs. Thanks tho. It's not that good. "Custom" ratio is not that custom, it cannot de-squeeze 2x, only 1.33 (if you shoot 16:9). It also cannot de-squeeze 1:1 ratio and that is what I was buying it for. Also mine has a glitch and the image is constantly broken. It also smells like plastic. Another quirck is that if you turn it on/off you do not get the image from BMPCC, you need to unplug the micro HDMI cable and plug it back to get the image. I never had a field monitor before, so maybe this is common.Mystic "Extrusion Mode" basically lets you set up start of X and Y coordinates, and X and Y size of image in pixels. Sounds nice but it can only do -80 pixels vertically. That's a really poor de-squeeze.Is it a good cheap monitor? I guess so. Is it worth $389 they ask for it? I would say no. Is it worth $290 that I paid for it? I would say no. If there was somebody who could tell me how those features work exactly I would not buy it. I think I would still pay $150 for it if it had no glitch. Talking to a seller now to see if that can be fixed, no reply yet. Sigh.

Sigh.Man, I'm sorry to hear that!I was hoping to hear it was a great solution and you loved it. I know too well the sting of dropping money on gear that doesn't measure up. Sorry it didn't work out this time. But thanks for coming through with the review - that was cool of you.

Russell Anway
Anyone know anyone know if video assist does a de-squeeze? I couldn't find any mention, and that's usually a no. Firmware maybe? Probably? I don't know if Blackmagic has a history of implementing that feature or not.
Caleb Genheimer
Doubt it. Zacuto's Gratical can, I believe.
Caleb Genheimer
Quick note: the SmallHD can do almost any ratio from a 2x, 16:9 input signal: up to 2.76:1 (Ultra Panovision 70). The blank areas of the screen get a bit glitchy at extreme squeezes, but it's darn nice seeing what the heck you're actually shooting.
