Nikon has filed patents for a mirrorless lens for a camera with APS-C-sized sensor.

Not all of Nikon's lens patents get used in the end, so take it with a grain of salt. However, considering Sony's success with smaller mirrorless camera bodies suitable for photo & video and the current maturity of EVF's, I think Nikon is likely to be interested in getting into that market.

I believe sony is releasing there a6100/a7000 soon so there's a chance that's the sensor that nikon will use aswell.

I've been rooting for them to bring out something like a mirrorless D5500. So actually, kind of something like the NX1, but then Nikon.

Could see them giving the Sony A7-line some competition if they'd make a mirrorless version of the D750 too...

As said elsewhere, they should partner with samsung, rebrand the nx1 as nikon, and they would sell millions (and be praised as the best apsc in the world). While nx1 sells poorly because it's a samsung.

From my point of view, the NX1 is a terrible design because the deep "canyon" in which the sensor is located prevents development of a Speed Booster for it.  However, with a little re-sculpting of the mechanical area near the sensor . . . . . .
