Brad Bjornstad
Hey all, just wanted to ask really quickly which setting everyone uses in camera between 4K DCI and UHD. I have heard that you get more resolution (ironically) in the UHD setting. I even believe I might have read that posted by Andrew a while back. I didn't know if maybe that was a firmware issue that was later fixed or not, and wanted to get your guys' thoughts. Thanks.
Geoff CB
Unless you are shooting for cinema, use the UHD setting. It does indeed give you better results. However the difference is minuscule. However some like myself prefer a slight bit of softening (for interviews), so in that case the DCI 4K option is there for you.
Beritar
With the recents firmwares, the result is the same ? I have not noticed a difference between DCI 4k and UHD. 1080P mode is a lot better than at the beginning for example.

Thanks.I replied in the other thread.Yes apparently, and it's not firmware, it's just that apparently the sensor 4K is actually 3840x2160 and it's just digital conversion somehow to produce 4096x2160.I'm curious if the same is true for the NX500, which only offers 24p in 4096x2160. The native 3840x2160 is only offered in 30p on the NX500.
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted November 21, 2015 Administrators Share Posted November 21, 2015 Just shoot Ultra HD, there's no real resolution gain using the DCI mode on the NX1. You may as well crop and stretch the Ultra HD to DCI in post if you want the 1.9:1 aspect ratio.
Brad Bjornstad
Thanks very much guys. Really appreciate all the help here. That is a good point about interviews possibly in 4k DCI for a softened look. I could see doing that in that situation and using UHD for everything else. You guys are awesome. Thanks again for the help!
