Yup looks gorgeous, looks like the entire trailer was shot in this format. Especially the two shots of Donny Yen have a very strong amount of subject separation.

Nonetheless... The franchise is bringing in some big names... Idi Amin, Sifu Ip Man and Gandalf.

Hateful 8 used 65mm film. It looks like Rogue One is using the same kind of 70mm lenses but using the Alexa as the camera.

This is a semi prequel. It takes place between Episode III and IV.

correct. same lenses, but different camera setup, and possibly with a 2.39:1 center extraction (if the trailer is any indication). hateful eight was 2.76:1. this might be too.

I do wonder where this whole franchise is going though... Looks like yet another story based around get into a death star

Its a prequel to episode 4 detailing the team that stole the plans to the original death star. Darth Vader is supposedly going to play an important role.

Yeah from what Kathleen Kennedy has said, they are wanting to do genre films inside the Star Wars universe, like Marvel. I'm assuming Rogue One will be an action heist film. The Han Solo origin story is supposed to lean toward action comedy. Should be interesting. I just absolutely love Star Wars canon so I hope they don't drive it into the ground.

This actually looks like a better story/film than Episode VII, which was so average it was shameful & slightly insulting to both the viewer & the franchise!

I was worried that after Godzilla, Edwards would make another POS - impressed.

definitely looks like more than 1.25x squeeze.  The defocus looks more pronounced and resolution is better than what I saw in the Hateful Eight.  With such a CG orientated production I doubt those old ultra panavision 70 lenses would be up to the job.   I wonder if the new Hawk 65mm anamorphics got a test drive on this?
