The ancient fucking codec for sure.

Funny how it still looks that much better than the 4k codec variations Sony uses on it's cams. The 4k h264 out of the A7sII series is considerably worse (just zoom in 100% into any slightly moving shot and you can see those macroblocks pushing themselves out).

Even mpeg1 can still look great as it actually supports over 4k and 8-12 bits.

The real takeaway here is that both companies are doing good (in a declining market) and that both systems have a future. Maybe Canon is doing a little worse and will have to innovate and Sony still remains an underdog that has to innovate hard. Hopefully, Sony will soon have the luxury to slow down and start on polishing the quirks and provide the absolute best system money can buy.

You are right... Yet if that is the only way to get 4:2:2 and really good motion cadence, then that seems like a positive, not a negative.

Having a bleeding edge codec is not always a great thing, go ask Samsung.

Which part of the 1DX II is 10 year old tech?

Hopefully the 5D4 has the same tech coming

I don't know, may be on-chip ADC may be new tech. for Canon. May be 20.2MP in full frame in DPAF is new from Canon.

But really, how is it dramatically different from combining 1DC and 70D?

The 1DX II is amazing, no doubt... but they had the 1DC since 2012 & 70D since 2013. In fact, even the 20.2MP FF was in the 6D since what year now? Adding DPAF to that can't be mind blistering hard, can it? I don't know...

Add 4K @ 60p & 1080/120p, but subtract C-Log.

The only thing I will admit is that even if it is 10 year old tech. Its tried, tested and true... it will work and that's what matters.

uh...Mjpeg actually was invented since the 1990s

I actually agree that the codec produces great results. Unmatched by any other 8-bit image, really. But in terms of efficiency, you have to admit it's an absolute card hog.

The H264 codec also produce very great results. othewise canon won't use XF-AVC for their C cams ,and other brand also use H264 for their 4K cams

The only problem that canon don't use H264 for the 1DXII is either processor shortage or  just do it on purpose for protecting C-line

I think it's an issue of processing power and heat.

Since internet forums were invented.

Did you know that anyone watching 4k material on a 4k monitor is already watching it at 100%?

Macroblocks and compression artifacts also get magnified during grading, depending on scale of the issues.

Sony now includes its medical division in Imaging, Canon, Olympus and others do not. From the report:

"In addition, the medical business, previously included in All Other, is now included in the IP&S segment as a result of a change in the Corporate Executive Officer in charge of the medical business. "

Those numbers don't look all that great next to Canon. But the SAR guy obviously doesn't bother to read the report, he just goes for clickbait.

Yeah, great clickbait...  Terrible stock and market analysis.

Strange he made the quote from Sony a picture vs searchable text.  Sony acknowledges sales were actually down on a constant currency basis and the overall market is shrinking.

Talk about a blogger and an internet forum poster burying the headline.  Canikon and now Sony have all acknowledged what we who live in reality have known for years. The gogo days of the 90s are long gone.  There simply is no reason for the average consumer to go out and by a DSLR or whatever every 2-3 years.  The cameras have gotten good enough.  And no I don't know anyone who owns a 4k TV let alone has the horse power to edit 4k movies.

Bullshit is it the only way to get 422 and good motion candace. H.264, ProRes, DNxHD and countless others also support intra-frame motion and 422.

Yet 4K H.265 is natively edited in Premiere CC, and MJPEG isn't.

I have to transcode the 1D C footage to ProRes.

Yet H.265 is hardware accelerated by Nvidia, Intel and AMD... and MJPEG isn't.

Facts are useful. Try some.
