Is a BDXL Blu-ray burner + 100GB M-Discs a worthy investment for longer term video file storage compared to hard drives?

My drives of video footage keep getting bigger and bigger and it's only a matter of time before they fail, so is this the best practical/affordable option for prosumers?

Blu-ray is cheaper per GB than hard disks. No matter which medium you pick, you want to make sure you have backups if it is important footage. Optical media can get scratched - or can be faulty so that the discs deteriorate over time, while hard disks eventually will die one way or the other - so you want redundancy by RAID, and perhaps backups to optical discs anyway.

LTO's the best option for long-term archival. Otherwise HDDs, particularly in a RAID setup. Or I guess you could be old-fashioned and create HDCAM tape masters ;)

Been looking at LTO as well. Seems like LTO-5 would be the model to start with.
