Ty Harper
Is a BDXL Blu-ray burner + 100GB M-Discs a worthy investment for longer term video file storage compared to hard drives? My drives of video footage keep getting bigger and bigger and it's only a matter of time before they fail, so is this the best practical/affordable option for prosumers? hempo22
I've used this with the 25GB discs for a good while and it's great. Still using a hard drive just to be sure since no one ones how long it will last, but I love it. Ty Harper
dahlfors
Blu-ray is cheaper per GB than hard disks. No matter which medium you pick, you want to make sure you have backups if it is important footage. Optical media can get scratched - or can be faulty so that the discs deteriorate over time, while hard disks eventually will die one way or the other - so you want redundancy by RAID, and perhaps backups to optical discs anyway. jax_rox
LTO's the best option for long-term archival. Otherwise HDDs, particularly in a RAID setup. Or I guess you could be old-fashioned and create HDCAM tape masters
