Justin Bacle
Hi everyone, I am currently looking to buy a Hard Case for transporting my most used gear (AF100 + Half a dozen of lenses + External recorder + small rig + extras). I found the cases from Pelican and HPRC to be quite expensive. Do you have other brand recommendations or a ways to get cheaper cases ? I thought about buying used, but people doesn't seem to sell their cases :s Thanks
gh2sound
Hi - this one's great (and cabin useable) http://www.pelican-case.com/1560.html I wouldn't scrimp on price - I've bought the cheaper versions and they're not much good to be honest. The Seahorse branded ones are o.k. and about 50% cheaper than Peli. http://seahorsecases.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=S&Category_Code=WHEELED_CASES Justin Bacle
Justin Bacle
Thanks for the seahorse brand, I'll check with them if they have a resaler in europe. Shipping is very expensive for objects of this size.
AaronChicago
Look for used Pelican cases. They get beat up anyway and are pretty rugged. Justin Bacle
silvertonesx24
Look for flight cases on your local craigslist. See what you can find and adapt from the musician/DJ world. That's where I got mine. Guitar amps, turntables, mixers, all can be adapted nicely for cameras and lenses.

I actually looked for that, but I couldn't find a case with the foam I need. Maybe there's a way to get foam separately but I am stuck here. I went to local stores of backstage equipment but they really have nothing that is suitable for me :s

I've bought a few used Pelicans on Amazon or ebay and ordered new foam. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/watertight-case-foam-inserts/ci/31198/N/3659994678

Fritz Pierre
Pelican all the way....they will last you a lifetime and if you buy replacement foam inserts you can tailor them to your shooting/traveling needs...like lenses they will last a lifetime and the roll on airline overhead bin compliant ones are great...the only thing stronger are the aluminum cases that go in the plane's belly, but then you risk theft and large temperature changes on your gear...unless of course you're lugging around an Alexa or F35 and even then you can do a lot with Pelican...I think the 1510's are compliant and go for around $149 including pluck foam

It is just to bad that the pelican cases are overpriced in EU. The Pelican 1510 case w/ foam is for sale at $160 at B&H, and at €200 in europe ($230). Thomann.de seems to have some pelican cases for cheap.
Justin Bacle
Okay so basically, I have the choice (in an affordable budget) between the Pelican 1560 (int. 506 x 380 x 229 mm) for €250 or the vanguard Suprem 53F (int. 560 x 450 x 200 mm) for 230€. The vanguard is a bit cheaper, and has more space. I know it is a reliable brand, but how far is ti from Pelican ? Does anyone have used vanguard hard cases ? Thanks (I'm still a bit worried the these two cases are not big enough, but that will force me to take less gear, which is not a bad thing I guess. :D #gearporn )

You could keep a DSLR and a few lenses. I have the 1600 for lenses, and the 1650 for storing my Ursa Mini + shoulder rig and follow focus. jgharding
Pelicases are the way. Just spend the cash, they're great. Justin Bacle

Okay, I'll try and put €400 aside for the 1650 then Thanks for the advice It's gonna be hard not to spend the cash on other things (I juste bought an ISCO ultrastar + 50D because why not ... :D)
