It reads light intensities into a readable matrix of addressable values. I do not think it is that simple. Blackmagic co-developed with another company its 4.6K sensor for a reason. There is a big chain from the photon hitting the top of sensor to the end result we get as a usuable file. Even then the pointy, full of glass, bit plays a big role as well... I don't know, I am trying to get my hands on an industrial vision camera using this type of sensor (Basler acA2500-60um for example) and mess with it, but I don't have the money right now.
