mercer
So, what lenses work well with DPAF? I assume most of the newer Canon lenses do, and LintelFilm confirmed the Sigma Art lenses do, but are there any other 3rd Party lenses that work well with it? How about the Tokina 11-16mm? jcs
All of our Canon L lenses and the 50 1.4 work fine. However they all make varying amounts of noise (50 1.4 is loudest). Canon STM lenses are silent (limited selection: http://explore-lenses.usa.canon.com/stm-lens-stepper-motor.html ). When close mic-ing to the subject, typically not an issue, however if using a camera mounted mic, it can be an issue. Don Kotlos
Rinad Amir
Ive tested 18-35&50-100 art sigmas on 80D and its silent but Canon 50mm 1.4 is noisy
mercer
Have either of you used the 35mm f2... The IS version? I just bought it refurbished from the Canon store during their sale last week.
hempo22
I pulled the trigger for the 1DX2 today so now I'm shopping lenses! Compatible Canon lenses here: https://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/images/cameras/eos/DAF/compatible_lens_chart.pdf But for slow focus transition the manual states it must be "USM and STM lenses released in and after 2009". I've only tried Sigma 18-35 and EF 85mm/f1,2 in a shop and didn't experiment with slow racking... I'm curious about Sigma 30mm f1,4, since it covers FF (http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1220042/0) and 40mm on FF is my fav FOV and 30mm on APS-H matches that almost perfect (39mm). Yep, Canon STM lenses are preferable for situations that mic is close to the camera. You can also hear the noise from one of PB AF tests (11m20s): andrgl and jcs
hempo22
Found another document stating which Canon lenses support "slow focus transition" (1dx2): http://support-th.canon-asia.com/contents/TH/EN/8202866100.html Would still love to know about Sigma and other third party lenses
Shield3
Canon makes (and I own and use ALL the time) a 24-105 STM F/3.5 - F/5.6. It's cheap (you can find them around $350) is light, dead silent AF, and works beautifully with the 1dx II. As a testament to how good this lens is - in Ohio today it warmed up to around 60 degrees - my daughter just learned to ride a bicycle on her own without training wheels. I grabbed the 1dxII and this lens and shot it in 4k and it turned out wonderfully - just stopped down to F/5.6 and was able to zoom in/out without issues (IE no aperture flicker). HIGHLY recommend the STM 24-105. Did I mention it is a EF lens? IE made for full frame? A hidden gem... hempo22
hempo22
Cool, Shield3! I've looked at it, but never really considered it since the f4 mkII and the Sigma 24-105 (and canon 24-70 f4) always steals the light, but I'll look into it! Do you know the t-stop at f5,6? Original 24-105 was like T5.something... Sigma is T4.2 I believe.
hempo22
btw @Shield3 is it parfocal? Would be great if people would post clips showing the speed of different lenses, canon with or w/o "slow focus transition" and third party. I got some testing lines up next weekend with borrowed lenses: Canon 50mm f1.8 II (real one!), Sigma 18-35 + 50-100 and Canon 85mm f1.2 II.
