Antonis
How do you guys deal with this or how do I turn it off? I looked in the preferences of the app but no such option there.
iamoui
There should be a little box that says something like "automatically open Photos for this device" near the top left of the main window that opens. Just un-check it.
Antonis
That doesn't work after I have formatted the card in camera. Which I do every after time I have offloaded the files. So basically the mac sees it as a "new" card whenever I stick it in.

I think that's the only way Photos won't recognize it as a new/different card every time.
Mat Mayer
I have it off, but always get a popup saying something like "can't add photos to app". Would love to get that removed too.
The Chris
I have an external card reader that I plug into the keyboard, that message doesn't come up for me. I always reformat in cam. Running El Cap.
Davey
Annoying, isn't it.
NX1user
Man do I hate this. Every time you reformat the card, iPhoto forgets and opens itself again. There has to be a hack somewhere to turn this off, but I can't find it.
Antonis
Super annoying! But it seams that I found a fix: You just need to open Terminal and paste the following line: defaults -currentHost write com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug -bool YES To reverse it back to normal just paste: defaults -currentHost write com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug -bool NO Source: http://petapixel.com/2015/12/21/stop-apple-photos-from-auto-launching-in-os-x-with-one-command/ dahlfors, John Matthews and Mat Mayer

I tried it just before this was posted.

Antonis
Make sure to copy the "-bool YES" line to DISABLE the automatic app opening. I did it the other way around the first time and that indeed doesn't work... :p Mat Mayer

Tony Anastasi
Created by Ben Balser / Published by CoreMelt Every time you stick a camera card into a card reader, the Photos app will auto-launch asking to import it. That can be a royal PITA, and Apple has not provided a way to turn that off. And each time that card gets erased, recorded to, and put back into the card reader, Photos thinks it is a brand new card it has never seen. This simple App allows you to disable and re-enable Photos automatically launching when an SD card or other type of image media is mounted. https://fcpxfree.com/products/card-response-annoyance-prompt your welcome guys.
