macnerd
DO THEY HAVE THE SAME SENSOR?, IS THE GH4 BETTER THAN THE GH3 IN LOW LIGHT?
Chris Oh
Do you need 4k?
TheRenaissanceMan
The GH4 has a newer, Panasonic-sourced sensor over the old Sony chip in the GH3. Nicer colors (imo), a stop better in low light, better slow motion, less RS in 1080p. In 4K, the gap increases quite a bit more.
jonpais
GH4 has nicer colors, focus peaking, a Monochrome setting to make peaking easier to see, 4K scaled down to 1080p on GH4 is much better than GH3 (hardly any noticeable moire), and the price is so low now, I can't see any reason why anyone would prefer the GH3. GH3 and GH2 are hardly obsolete though, many filmmakers are still creating excellent work with those cameras. I found the lack of peaking on the GH3 very frustrating, but if you are on a budget, you can probably find one on eBay for around $400. Prices on the excellent GH4 have dropped dramatically as well, to as low as $1,000.
IronFilm
If you're comparing the two of GH3 vs GH4 then clearly you're somewhat budget restrained otherwise you'd have just got the GH4, thus I highly recommend you buy the Panasonic G7 instead! :-D jonpais
TheRenaissanceMan
Agreed. The G7 or G80/85 offer much more bang for the buck than a GH.
