Here's a quick frame grab and video from my XC10. I don't remember the setting on this one just found it with some random footage. I think it shows the ghosting pretty clearly though.

Here's the reply I received from Canon

"a lot of the chatter consists of posts from people who... don't even own the camera"

Normally I agree. That's why I'm now compiling a folder of MXF files with XML metadata from owners here on EOSHD to send to Canon.

Thank you @Lintelfilm @kidzrevil for footage so far.

XC10 owners - PM me your ghosting clips

Canon appear to be looking into the issue at the moment. They've asked me to forward the settings for my camera.

With reference to the ghosting issue on your XC10, can you please save a copy of the settings you have on your camera to a memory card and email us a copy of the file?

Our product specialists have requested this so they can continue to investigate the issue. The option is found in the System Menu under Backup Menu Settings.

I've sent this on to them now and mentioned that I've tried various combinations of settings but all produce ghosting on my unit. Have any of you guys had requests for further details like this?

Yup ! I was told by a Canon representative that they are not aware of this problem and the more people that contact them with it is how they proceed in fixing it. He said they log all the user complaints etc.

I am sending in my unit to them with the hope that it can be fixed or I can get a replacement unit. If not ? bye bye XC10

"a lot of the chatter consists of posts from people who... don't even own the camera" is corporate double speak for "we are not going to do a damned thing about it" :)

When a CR responds like that, it is not promising.

Especially when you bombard them with clips from different camera units.

spoke to a Canon representative yesterday and he hung up on me in the middle of me giving him my serial #. Lol.

Im learning to live with this issue. Going to try shooting at a super slow shutter speed at ISO to mask the issue. Hopefully that works

Did you send the camera in?

So canon said that since my camera is just over a year old it's not qualified for warranty work. My question is if this can be repaired via a hardware or software, didn't they sell me a defective unit in the first place? Has anyone sent in their cameras and has it improved anything?

I changed my mind about sending it in. I asked a canon representative off the record if it is a engineering issue and not a defective unit how will I be compensated and he had no clue. Think the best bet is to get someone like @Andrew Reid to look into it and then they'"" hopefully respond with a firmware update because of the press.

For now I would suggest shooting at slower shutter speeds when you hit iso 1000 & up. The motion blur masks the ghosting effect

More horrors! Little black dots caused by in-camera sharpening at 4K. It's most noticeable in Standard profile with sharpness turned up to max, but it's noticeable in all profiles that allow sharpening. I first spotted it in WideDR with sharpening at the default settings. The little black dots don't seem to be apparent in HD, but the blackening of edge outlines certainly is. The lesson here is: don't use in-camera sharpening. I'm going to send these files to Canon.

Standard, 100% view, no sharpening, no little black dots:

Standard, 100% view, maximum sharpening, lots and lots of little black dots:

Regarding ghosting, Canon say it's due to noise reduction and (I guess) that we must all bite the bullet:

Thank you for your email. Today I have received an update from our product specialists regarding the ghosting artefacts and can confirm that this is caused by noise cancellation. Your camera is working normally and is within specification.

I mean, does this footage look usable? That's not a rhetorical question. I'm genuinely wondering if people think you could use shots like this without the general viewer thinking wtf is that?

Generally speaking the average user doesn't notice it. It kinda looks like motion blur to the avg person
