mojo43
Thanks for the update. Does playback in camera work?
DevonChris
Thanks for the update. Does playback in camera work? I've just uploaded the 64Mbs hack, and yes, the playback in camera does work. The hack is still in Beta, but I decided to go ahead anyway.
mojo43
Cool, thanks for letting me know. I thought that there would be problems. I have been using the hack for a month or so and it seems that the occasional data error happens (probably based on the slowness of my card), but other than that everything works well. DevonChris
I've used the hack extensively for over a month and never had any data issues at all. I use SanDisk Extreme Pro 95 MB/s cards. I guess fast cards are becoming more important now that the bit rates are getting so good. I have been taking fantastic footage with the previous hack - very little or no moire and very high image quality using AIS primes. Can't wait to give this new hack a go tomorrow. The 5200 is really rocking now, thanks to NikonHacker.

Inazuma
This intrigues me somewhat :/ Do you think the hacker will add features such as focus peaking? Do you think the hack will be ported to d5300? Do you find the image to be more gradable? Ie. You can lift shadows up and change colours with less problems. Could you post comparison pictures of what the image looks like before and after the hack?
terozzz
There are ton of more information in the shadows now :) Hack may be coming to D5300 when new update comes from Nikon for it... i havent hear about peaking coming to nikon... DevonChris
Do you think the hacker will add features such as focus peaking? I don't miss focus peaking on the D5200, though it would be good if it was available. I have developed a workflow when shooting with the 5200 that is starting to get really good results. This is a summary of high I take static shots using AiS lenses which are great because you can monitor aperture changes real time in live view. 1) Check live view to get approximate iris value, moving aperture ring accordingly 2) Get approximate focus in live view and then magnify image for accurate focussing 3) Take photo and view it with highlighting enabled to rapidly check for blown out highlights 4) Change aperture, if required to protect highlights. If not start video recording I always use 24 fps, 1/50th shutter speed and Tiffen ND's with the camera set to Natural profile. I set ISO manually to the lowest possible (100, if I can). terozzz
terozzz
Focus peaking u get with external monitor wich is good thing to get anyway ;)
Nikkor
There is never going to be focus peaking through the hacks, right now they have no way to program things for themselfs, they just modify the existing code. terozzz

Inazuma
Hi araucaria, I'm not looking for sharpest picture at the moment but rather the one with the best colours, highlight detail and shadow boosting (in-camera or in post) :)
terozzz
Heres the 62mpbs clip : https://mega.co.nz/#!J0c1lZKa!dDW3GHRdduR_o71AkAmuWLDabyJGkqA5YpZ8OBbJn-Q
Nikkor
Hi araucaria, I'm not looking for sharpest picture at the moment but rather the one with the best colours, highlight detail and shadow boosting (in-camera or in post) :) I saw a video of yours taken with the gx7 and it looked pretty good to me, I would rather stay with that and wait for something better. DevonChris
Here is a screen grab from a shoot I did yesterday. The D5200 had the first hack, not the 64Mbs hack. This is straight out of the camera, with no PP at all. Lens : 85 F2.0 AiS, 24fps, shutter speed 1/50th, No ND, Neutral picture profile, all other settings are standard '>
terozzz
New test screen shots. Look at this, sharpen in camera at 0 , 3 and 9. gamma 0.6, lens 35mm f1.8 64Mbps hack Sharpen 0 : https://www.flickr.com/photos/terozzz/15207916825/in/photostream/lightbox/ Sharpen 3: https://www.flickr.com/photos/terozzz/15184885026/in/photostream/lightbox/ And finaly sharpen 9 : https://www.flickr.com/photos/terozzz/15021340118/in/photostream/lightbox/ ;) Clips sharpen 0 : https://mega.co.nz/#!Y0lhHQLC!TTbSixgDfJf1MTH1njPI_QMwcj4SPbh4d04_7BcODIU sharpen 9: https://mega.co.nz/#!FhtDRZBD!eLr1O3zNvMlfkRCNjLEe9tb5Xdfs8LrYDda3YeA8bqg I know its redicoulus to put sharpen to 9 in camera.. But it shows how much u can recover sharpnes in post :) Edit: and i notice that sharpen 0. bitrate is 47mbps and sharpen 9 its 61mbps.. Hmmm.... mojo43
I usually shoot at sharpness 3 to aid in focusing, but looking at sharpen 0 vs 3 there is no doubt that 0 is nicer.
