olleolsson
Hi, there I recently bought a new computer so now I´m finally able to start using Davinci Resolve. I have watched a ton off tutorials online so I have a okay knowledge off how to use the program. One thing that´s not mentioned online that much is how to proper work with color (colorspaces, LUTs/Emulations etc) So now I would appreciate some advice about just that. I shoot Raw with Magic Lantern so the files in Resolve are CinemaDNGs 1080p. My ML Raw footage comes out with very little dinamic range but maybe that´s how ML Raw is acting. Examples: Now I want to find the proper/professional color workflow within Resolve. I have wound that the most common way to adjust color: 1. Correct/balance 2. Apply some sort of filmlook 3. Final adjustments In my case in the look stage I going to add something like the M31 Lut or a Film emulation of any kind. The following question come up in my heat when trying to figure out a solution. I have read a bit about Aces but I don´t see any advantages with that because I just have one type of files! What colorspace to use in the camera raw tab? BMD or 709? What node structure is the best? correction before or after look/lut? when to use scopes? when to correct skintones? In words I want to know what the proper color workflow is? regarding Raw, Luts etc! Plz give as much information as possible! Every step from MLV Raw to impresivly graded footge! Best regards //Olle
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted December 8, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 8, 2016 Try colour space BMD Film then applying a LUT. You should definitely be seeing more DR.

Don't bother with ACES unless you require it. Most LUT's and many of the color correction tools in Resolve do not work properly in ACES. -What colorspace to use in the camera raw tab? BMD or 709? Use the BMD to get the DR you want. -What node structure is the best? correction before or after look/lut? when to use scopes? when to correct skintones? I typically do base lift/gain adjustment -> Individual section of the scene adjustments -> clean up skin -> stabilization/noise reduction -> Then apply look olleolsson
