Administrators Andrew Reid Posted January 12, 2017 Administrators Share Posted January 12, 2017 Take a look at this... GH5's sensor seems to fill out the entire inner circular part of the mount with no black border. Is it really bigger?
aldolega
Or it's just that the sensor glass is larger, or not shaded/tinted at the edges... Or that's just a rendering and actual photos of the actual production cam/sensor will look like the GH4...
Don Kotlos
No. Probably the official image was either a render or a mockup. Here is a view of the real thing: MountneerMan, Orangenz and Kisaha

The problem I think (for me) is the photo still isn't directly straight on, so there is some hidden along the top. Nice summary of it's stats. The menu system with huge custom function tab sounds great! The shutter is so nice sounding! More pixels!
liork
You also fell in this marketing image... Its a standard size micro 4/3 sensor. No "Magic borders" or anything like that.
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted January 12, 2017 Author Administrators Share Posted January 12, 2017 Just shows how much room there is to expand the sensor if they wanted to. liork, Orangenz and IronFilm
Alex Moreán
But that means creating a new lens lineup and ditching what they already have, right?
dantheman
The jvc ls300 has a s35 sensor yet has a m4/3 mount so it should be possible but that doesn't matter as it is not the case with the gh5. IronFilm
Even if they didn't go S35 like the JVC, at the bare minimum it would've been nice to go multi aspect ratio like the GH2
Kisaha
JVC does brilliant things out of this sensor, it is not the best sensor around (800ISO the most), but it can do Prime Zoom function (it really works! ) and put most lenses ever built, plus there is a metabones there for anyone going larger. The most interesting part is that the sensor is made by JVC (they bought out a small sensor company a few years ago), and JVC, if I am not mistaken, is partially owned by Panasonic, I would expect them to make their own sensors, at least for their flagship, instead of buying them by their main competitors (Sony). webrunner5
