Hi all, I know this is really basic stuff to you all but I would really appreciate some help. I have a 5D mk111 with Cinestyle installed and Premeire CS5 on a PC. I'm shooting a horror film with my daughter in the woods this weekend and what to play with the look of the footage. Do I need Blackmagic or some other software to grade Cinestyle footage? How do I use Luts... if I need to!? I don't really want to buy any more software if I can help it. Should I just stick with Canon colour profile I've been using until now? Thanks in advance :)

I recommend sticking to what you know for now. If you want to mess around, you can load LUT's through the Lumetri panel in premiere, you can find some you like online or use the looks already in Premiere.

Other than that look up tutorials and practice. Grading is not simple, and your question is far to broad to cover in a simple response.

Since you are going to shoot this weekend I suggest you to focus in the shooting process, make sure you are exposing correctly (please fill with some lights or reflectors) and your whites are OK, if the footage you get is good, later you can do a lot of changes and improvements, if the footage is bad, not much can be done in post. The best software to grade later is Davinci Resolve, which by the way, is free. But you will have to learn how to use it, it is not very complicated but be prepare to spend several hours watching youtube tutorials, also with Davince is very easy to add as many LUT's as you wish, and there are several places where you can get for a few box a lot of different LUT's.

Good Luck with your horror movie!!!!

Yeah, what others have said...

Worry about post-production later, capture everything as best as you can now... then when you are editing you can worry about luts and effects later.

Best way to learn is to have footage and a due date :D

Goodluck.
