Ronnie Amighetti
Hey guys, am looking for a bit of advice here. Got a project coming up in the next few days. Me and a friend decided to do some field recordings with musicians we're friend with. Audio and video, as acoustic as possible. Anyway, we created a facebook page for the entire project (which is gonna be 10 episodes, to begin with). We're still debating wheter we should upload the videos to my Youtube channel (very much music related) and then embed it on our FB page, or directly to facebook. Or both. Or any other ideas? Your suggestions? Very much appreciated. Thanks.
Thpriest
Doesn't Facebook 'own' the videos if you upload them directly to Facebook?
leeys
I think it's best you ask around in the music circles where most of their exposure comes from. Any musicians here as well? Ronnie Amighetti
rdouthit
You'll get more traction on FB if you upload directly there. However, since you can't currently monetize on FB, it will have to be for publicity only. I would recommend posting the full videos to YouTube and then post teasers, bts or highlights to Facebook. Facebook did just recently introduce mid-roll ads on videos and is starting to expand their revenue share ad program, but I think it's still a long time before independent producers will have access to that program. Yep. Same here. I was thinking about a super short teaser (10 to 15 sec) to show what's goin' on with the YouTube-embedded right below it. Thanks for your inputs. That's why I prefer to steer view to my YouTube channel.
SuperSet
Hey fellas - Anyone given further thought about these platforms now that the whole YouTube demonetization thing has taken hold? I know several folks that are only making pennies now compared to what they did last year. It sucks that FB still only tops out at 720P but since most folks are watching videos on their phones anyway, I don't think it matters that much. As an experiment, I checked view counts and comments on Oak Studios FB page and their YT page and they were about even. Further thoughts? jcs
You'll probably get more play/interaction on Instagram (limited to 1 minute, need to use Google Drive or Dropbox to save to and upload from phone). Put content on all platforms (including Vimeo), and check out Patreon.com too.
freeman
I'm currently doing this same thing with a musician traveling here in Germany. We're doing 1 min videos on insta and FB, and are just focusing on those for now but I think that's the way to go trailer style on social media and then longer form on youtube. Thinking about audiences, if you're on FB or Insta I feel like the audience is in more "browse" mode. So you put up smaller bits of content that don't overstay their welcome, and then the youtube audience (I feel) is more likely to stay and watch a full episode. Also FB can handle videos up to 45min however file size is limited to 1.5 gigs. Post a link when they're up, looking forward to seeing what you guys make.
