Damphousse
Correcting the Internet is the wrong business to be in. I read review after review of Canon Rebel cameras that talk about the fantastic 1080p video the Rebel cameras produce. I simply don't have time to have a heart attack and bang wildly on my keyboard every time I read stuff like that. I go to work and do the best I can and forget the rest. The other thing is we all screw up. I learned early on jumping on someone's neck when they f up only breeds hordes of people who are all itching to gang up on you when you inevitably f up. I don't understand all the gobblygook going back and forth about the GH5. Frankly if anyone buys a $2,000 camera based on one blog post on the internet they are either an idiot or rich. I read multiple sources and watch every quality video I can before I make a purchase. If I was considering purchasing the GH5 I would wait until plenty of reviewers have it in their hands AND all the critical firmware updates are available. The codec that is most interesting is not even going to be available at launch. Wait for the codec to come out, and for it to be reviewed, and for sample videos to be posted. Anything less than that and it is on you if you buy a camera that is a dud or prematurely write off a camera. Also places like this forum are a great resource. Let others pick up the camera and report their results. If it sucks or if it is great you will read all about it on this forum. The results will not be kept secret. Who says it's a business? It's about highlighting the truth and putting good info out there. If a consensus builds and wrong information is accepted as true, like with the regularly bad tests Cinema5D put out ("A7S 14.1 stops dynamic range" - in 8bit codec!!) then it's worth correcting. No you can't be the internet police as there's too much crap out there... But you can at least do something about the murder on your doorstep. 2 hours ago, Damphousse said: I read review after review of Canon Rebel cameras that talk about the fantastic 1080p video the Rebel cameras produce. It's not quite as life or death as that. Ever heard of Amazon? If you don't like it you just send it back. tomekk and PannySVHS

Some people will maintain certain views no matter what and no amount of logic, reasoning, or real-world evidence will change their minds. Perhaps it's marketing, politics, drama, negative attention, ego, who knows? The best you can do is put information out there that everyone can use to find the truth for themselves and move on to the next puzzle. In the thread below folks argued with the inventor of the Speedbooster, one of the top lens designers in the world. As a cognitive scientist I wonder how these folks would argue in person with everyone physically present vs. the isolation and extreme dissociation created by the internet: When the GH5 is released you'll have your opportunity to refute Cinema5D with your own tests and evidence, and if you provide instructions for doing a proper test, your readers can replicate your tests and decide for themselves. sam

Then they make assumptions and state that the audio issues probably can't be fixed. Should anyone ever let this guy prescreen movies ever? Well put! Good analogy. If you want to quit for financial reasons or to spend time with your family I get it. But because someone somewhere on the interne is wrong?! No way. If I had to quit because someone somewhere was wrong and still got nice breaks because of politics I would be permanently out of work. Just put out a good product you believe in and ignore the rest. Andrew isn't quite wrong about multiple sources being the sum of a PR move. Canon famously doesn't let anyone with negative words about them get their hands on a review unit - I was denied any form of Canon gear for review after pointing out how Canon likes to "castrate" features for product segmentation (I think it was for the EOS 6D). O&M, Canon's PR firm, told me as such in polite terms. So if Canon only lets bloggers and reviewers who say nice things about their cameras have review units, you get this wall of positive noise about their cameras. Hear, hear! I never post on here...but I've been reading Andrew's reviews for a number of years. When I'm trying to procrastinate, as I am right now, this is the first video site I go to. I was trying to remember who and what got me sold on the GH2, and it very while might have been Andrew, and the eoshd community. I then picked up a GH3, a GH4, and I'm thinking I better save up some dinero for the GH5, as the actual hands on tests that I'm seeing are showing that it's limitations are far outweighed by its numerous strengths. Don't lose hope Andrew. Stay true to the course, and don't be drawn in by the stifling rhetoric of the naysayers and corporate/sponsor driven sites (not that they are all bad) ...but we must all be much more leary of "fake news"...which seems to very often come from those with the most to gain and lose financially). They're pretty much all the same and doing the same kind of reviews with close relationships to the PR companies. Regarding the Amazon deliveries unless you are regularly buying and returning porn videos, I don't really know what the fuss is about Amazon knowing you bought a GH5 and decided to return it. Besides the big USA Today logic fail is that the company already knows what you bought in the first place and shared that with a third party (it's in the small print). And even the regular return of any purchase is protected by law and rights of the consumer (distance selling regulations). The USAToday article is just downright paranoid and something you'd expect from Briebart - but hey - clicks. Quote I guess what I am saying is someone somewhere putting out wrong or bad information isn't worth quitting your blog if it is you passion. I wouldn't quit because of a single site dude....I'd quit because the industry as a whole in which EOSHD needs to exist is making me lose my passion. I have multiple stories about Canon's totalitarian PR as well... Slashcam in Berlin once got a 1D C and Canon were very over-protective of it. It's annoying as hell. At last year's BVE I was with SLR Magic and I went to talk to a Canon PR guy to try and get SLR Magic an opportunity to test the C300 II with one of their lenses. I said I was EOSHD and he says "oh, we know who YOU are" and gave me an icy stare. I don't think I'll be getting any demo units from Canon for the time being Despite being a 1D X Mark II user, a C500 user, a 1D C user, an ex-XC10 user, a 5D Mark III user, a 5D Mark II user, owning a ton of EF glass, and naming my site after them.... And spending all my own money on that gear... It's not enough... because I told it like it was with the negative aspects of what they do. Dishonest and unfriendly, in my experience. I don't think I've had a satisfying encounter with them... ever
