jean-baptiste lefournier
Great News ! Will you update your GH2 Patch Vault page ? or does the intra testing 88 (F settings) still work along with the new hack? Thanks for your answer. tony wilson
just when the video retarded nikon d800 thinks it's something cos some dude with a big helmet on a motor bike. shakes his stills camera around and his director says. man the d800 as a camera it cannot get any better than this this is nikon steppin up and changin dere game :D all i can say is god help us if that is true and then. comes this modest cheap bit of panasonic plastic and with the help of a mad russian and other looney tunes. they fart in the general direction of canon and nikon and say you own the market but not for much longer. you have been lazy and greedy. mirror mirror on the wall yes, in a new camera ? hail the hackable panny. and lets have leica and fuji do something cool in this moving picture arena. jean-baptiste lefournier
Thanks for your answer Andrew. yes I think, I'll wait for your 25p "F" patch release to have a lazy/safe "end user" hack :) Still great to follow your constant updates and reviews on EOSHD ! Awesome work.

Alberto
Hello everyone, I'm new here. I just received my new GH2 (Japan Version). I will work for a documentary film for French television shot with a "canon XF100" as the first camera. Could someone suggest me a good pach for quality images, and a good record length. 1080-50i. I have a 32GB SanDisk Extreme class 10 card. Thank you for your help!!! Alberto
jkofilms
Hello, I have a GH2 with the original firmware and I'm going to be hacking it soon for a shoot abroad: do you recommend I update to the newer official V1.11 and then hack it or hack it as it is with the previous version firmware? Thank you!
jean-baptiste lefournier
The latest 1.11 firmware is great, (improved NR, "HBR" 25p) you should just wait for EOSHD latest patches (based on 1.1 hack) that might be available for download very soon. Moving back to previous firmware (1.0) would be pity in my opininion.
markm
Have to agree jean. Driftwoods new quantum hack using I frames is simply brilliant with the new panasonic upgrade!
filipeG
I updated the firmware with the Driftwood GOP1 AQ2 all round 'AQUAMOTION' ver 2, that I used before on the 1.0, but I think that the resolution, or definition has change to worse.. Anyone notice that? Doesn't the noise reduction filter leads to worse definition or resolution?
markm
I'm not an engineer and I may have this wrong and I've only used driftwoods quantum patch in HBR but if I understand correctly the GH2 has a 4608 x 3456 sensor and if the noise reduction is applied before being down sampled to 1920 x 1080 then I imagine it must be doing a better job. If it isn't I still see a better quality picture which may be totally down to driftwoods hack. For me a major problem in version one was the noise. Version 1.1 has addressed that and although (moan) still 4,2,0 and 8 bit I think this camera with the hack and 1.1 version is now working on the limits of what can be achieved in this format (Pretty damned good). At least to what I can see. What for me would finish it would be clean HDMI out at 4,2,2.

Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 21, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 21, 2012 Hi Alberto. I'm afraid I don't really shoot in 1080/50i mode so can't suggest a patch for it. Mine work in 24p mode.
Alberto
Hi Andrew, thanks for your answer, I think you also have a Japan GH2, did you attempt to have the 25P with the new Ptool? Which settings? Maybe I can work (if is possible) in 25p and then transform the footage in 50i, what do you think? Best Alberto
markm
Alberto have you had a look on the DVXuser forums? Lots of info here. Alberto
Hi Mark, thank you for your suggestion, a lot of reading for the next 3/4 days! I'm new to Gh2, and I live in Japan so have the NTSC version for PAL assignment...hope to find the good workflow for my work. markm
Alberto... Oh yes! My humble opinion is because of the new firmware update and new hacks and understanding of certain areas the GH2 can in terms of picture quality compete rather nicely with cams like the C300. Unless you need 4,2,2 for greenscreen. But then put £650 for the GH2 against the £12000 for the C300 and really it's a no brainer and who knows you could buy the C300 and a hack is found for the GH2 to deliver 4,2,2. Of course though another hidden expense is you still need a good matte box, ND filters and a monitor. The good thing is when you have those things, any new comparable cameras with those things IE lenses, come with you! I really think DSLR style cameras could be the way forward for film makers. However NAB could pull out a comeback. Exciting times but maybe the wrong times to invest heavily!
