Panasonic GH5 starts shipping in 3 days. How's the 180fps slow-mo quality?

I imagine that with VBR on the GH5 it as well conforms in-camera to whatever rate you were shooting in (24, 25, 30). Not sure how this affects anything you want to do with Twixtor, because you have sequential control in post to make it any sort of clip and speed all you want.

 Hi Andrew I'm curious how likely you think it is to ship this week, and if you ordered directly from Panasonic? I ordered from BNH and am hoping to pick it up before a shoot but they seem to think it won't start till the 30th.

I only preordered mine like 10 days ago in the UK and wouldn't really mind having it sooner, especially since I have to send off GH4 for repairs. If I see an opportunity to get one earlier elsewhere, might easily cancel my order.

Not very optimistic though, seeing as I still haven't received GX85 I ordered back in December from a vendor that actually listed it as in "stock" :|

From the G80 release I believe they were the first ones to sport a few units. I probably have the best chance again picking up one from the local A-S Elektro, they don't ship, it's pick-up only. More places in town like it with some fair odds, like with the E-M1 Mark II was the case (actually didn't end up buying one... for now). Actually think the E-M1 Mark II was for sale two days earlier in The Netherlands, so maybe also keep an eye on here: https://tweakers.net/product/537687/panasonic-lumix-g-dmc-gh5/ . If the situation applies to you, maybe worth checking into (-- ah, over here , 2906 CHF (~ 2699 EUR) incl. Leica lens, battery grip & audio unit, not too bad).

It's not an official kit but Foto Mundus offer a lot of combinations typically, for example they sell the BMMCC with different M43 lenses as kits.

Ordered from them once in the past, was quick and ok.

Yes, that's really surprising as I actually ordered mine less than 2 weeks ago.. So couldn't be far up the preorder queue and Jessops is one of the biggest UK photography retailers, so there must have been lots of preorders.

On the other hand, though, the GX85 affair has been ridiculous.. Ordered mine at the end of December, still waiting! The vendor says Panasonic keeps screwing with them, unable to fulfil the backlog for 3 months. Maybe all the resources went into the launch of GH5

Interesting. So like a huge backorder supply issue, then? Hum. Believe I picked mine up somewhere in the middle of May last year? Seeing supply just about anywhere online as we speak too. Couldn't you just have cancelled and ordered at another place? Though, I heard similar UK supply issues with the G80 (mine arrived just in time for my NY trip last October). But that might've been induced by the attraction for us mainlanders to order it from across the Channel due to that free battery grip deal from Panasonic and cheapers prices in general, basically giving us a free lens at our body only prices. We sneaky little buggers like that.

According to the manual variable frame rate is still limited to 8bit and 100Mbps. No 150Mbps for all these frames.

 

Does anyone know if the GH5 can output FullHD at 180fps or 96fps or anything >60 via HDMI for an external recorder?

(Atomos Shogun Inferno can do 1080p240)

Does that also mean that I still can't use Wifi remote control/monitoring whild doing a 10bit recording internally or externally?

When using GH 5 and Metabones EF - MFT and EF Zoom Lens in combination, the camera freezes.
It is OK for single focus lens.

I want to see if there's any moire in textile patterns or weave.  Some tallent's shirts make gx85 footage unusable. 

On another note, andrew why are you surprised you didn't get invited. You've now established (and are outspokenly and rightly proud of) the fact that you won't be bought, glad handed or mollycoddled into praising a product you think is crap.  Accept the fact you are not in the same business as photo journalists, keep your integrity and be far more useful to us lot as a result.
