EOSHD Pro Color 5 for Sony cameras EOSHD Z LOG for Nikon CamerasEOSHD C-LOG and Film Profiles for All Canon DSLRs

Nice camera but somehow I'm not impressed.

I saw the rumors and I thought Sony A9 would have a a more ruggerised body (dustproof, waterproof), less squishy buttons and an extendedy body like the 1DX has. And a big focus on image quality i.e. much higher dynamic range than other cameras.

Instead the focus is 20fps. Who needs 20fps?

Sports photogs can be interested, but they need big white lenses. Sony doesn't have any of those.

I have no idea which kind of user Sony is targeting for this.

They just added a 100-400mm lens. I would think that, and a 24-70mm would be be the bees knees. I know the 100-400 is sort of slow, but this thing goes up to over 200,000 ISO!

At 20FPS with NO blackout, and with total silent shutter, they will not be able to make enough of them! A sports, wedding photographers dream camera. And the damn thing has a Ethernet cable output! Instant downloads. Well almost instant LoL. :grimace:

And there is No way this thing is not weather sealed. A sports camera Not sealed?

This is a righteous camera, but I don't think it's the one we're waiting on

Oh, I was waiting for such a camera - didn't buy the 1DX m2 and sold last year many Canon sports lenses and even the Canon FFs, so now I am happy to get into the SoNykon world without need to save money. Some weeks after release I will buy it and hope on a A7S iii with insane low features too. FF in 4k when talking 25fps rules...

I hope they offer a real 1080p in FF mode too...

They could make this beast a perfect camera with internal 10bit recording! Why Sony? WHY?

Probably too much data to move quick enough for uploads??

Price in Germany, 5300 €... like the A7 series wasn't already getting silly for people who don't use them for work.

Looking forward what a A7 III and/or A7s III will bring. But currently I think I might actually go for a GH5 instead, even though it's a completely different system. I hate changing systems, but you have to decide for a camera you will actually shoot something with and not what "might get released in 6 months time".

Well the A9 is shipping in May, not that long away.

It might not be revolutionary for video, but the lack of blackout at 20fps & 93% fast phase detect AF coverage is a big deal for action photography. So I am not puzzled about the lack of 10bit but the lack of ruggedness & weather sealing which many pro action photographers NEED.

And then there is rolling shutter or the lack of it. Olympus & panasonic cameras try to compensate the rolling shutter when panning (most rolling shutter tests are panning shots) but cannot do anything when the subject is moving, so I would guess from the following image that this camera has come pretty darn close to global shutter.

havent seen any referene about this camera being weather sealed, i think is a reasonably big selling point for ignoring it in any product description

@Window_Frame

+ @Don Kotlos - In my eyes, it seems Sony made the A9 with sports photographers in focus, so video functions are just a "give away" for documentary work. The A9 has even some nice functions for immediately transmit photos or footage to editorial offices and social media...So obviously it's made with sports photographers and journalists in mind - and not a specialist for more sophisticated video functions...

They really knocked it out of the park with this camera didn't they.

With a BSI 24mp sensor maybe SLOG won't be neccessary...? Can anyone school me here? Maybe highlights can be brought down somehow? I don't understand why cameras need a LOG function with boosted ISO when the full dynamic range is available at iso 100 for stills?

My guess would be that either this thing overheats like crazy and they did not want the bad rep from video shooters,

or Sony got too close to Canon and they caught the virus of stupid market segmentation decisions :)

PJ still market is like a dead body. Way fewer people buy D5/1DX style cameras these days compared to even 2012. I don't know why they suddenly decided to focus on that segment.

Hmm, that's true, maybe it's a sign they're coming?

No way will that ISO be suitable for pro work. At the end of the day even with the best Nikon/Canon a f/2.8 lens is still needed when shooting sport in a stadium at night. Sony doesn't have any superteles unlike Nikon and Canon.

Full dynamic range is only with raw; all other formats have the tone curve baked in to a certain extent. That's why LOG is neat, since the there's a bit more latitude to play with when grading.
