A tad unclear on 4:2:2

Alright.

So this is the year I'm making the move from cat videos to short films, lol.. I put together a small budget for a camera system I could make some money with on the side as well.. The initial buy was to be a BMC.. I was told not to get my hopes up on a summer arrival and Ebay had a couple for $5,000, from sellers with bad reps or none at all. (Red One horror stories turned me off too.)

So I splurged for a C100 with a Ninja 2.

I don't plan to do much greenscreen work with it, and that's where i hear the benefit of 4:2:2 really comes into play. Most of the talk around the validity of the Ninja 2 as being a neccessity for $1200 with the C100 says you don't see a day and night difference between the internal recordings vs the Ninja 2's enough to justify that expense.. Most of what I've seen online also has to be blown up to "pixel peeper" perspective and pushed further than I would ever grade anything to notice as well. But hey, i'm looking at web converted footage also.

My question is really more, what am i looking for between the 2? I've never really messed with anything shot natively at 4:2:2 coming from a GH2 and 5D's... So I'm curious from guys with experience.

Since on paper, a Ninja 2 gives the C100 a better codec than a C300 with the same sensor. I'd have like, a C350. Lol.. But if it isn't really a huge deal, then I could sure use that $1200 for a nice lens or 2!!

Thanks guys!!
