Always back light in video music?

I could read this as it was black text on a white background. They're not talking about "backlight" it's "shoulder light" - a very subtle rear light to increase subject separation from the background. In the example above not so subtle, but usually it is.

That makes more sense.

Again, for my limited video use, I wouldn't use that in a dark restaurant.     I guess it wouldn't matter what you are shooting (music video or not) if it was useful why not.

I doubt I would find it useful in a live video though.
