As always with RED lots of debate is encouraged... Not. More like a bunch of yes men saying how wonderful everything is and ignoring that the company threatens any filmmaker and customer who happens to tell the truth about an EPIC letting them down on 2 out of 2 paid jobs.

And then demanding the camera back that they paid $80,000 for out of their own pocket. Nice.

This is all ethically wrong of course and anyone who blinds themselves to that is one helluva deluded fanboy. If Canon's boss threatened his own customers with nasty emails and demanded their camera back where would they be now, how does it help anyone not least RED themselves? It is incredibly unprofessional in my opinion and it sucks big time.

I was considering a Scarlet but not any more. I'll buy from someone who has ethics and who treats filmmakers (and his $80,000 customers) with some respect.

RED have always been a strange company - they produce some technically very interesting kit, but there seem to be a lot of egos involved, and a fair amount of posturing. Not to mention the many missed delivery dates and broken promises on specifications.

I'm not very surprised to hear that Philip Bloom has been treated like this - but it's a really dumb thing for RED to do - I'm sure it will have the effect of deterring many people from buying their products.

Canon & Sony may be big anonymous corporations, but they generally deliver what they say they will, and don't demand complete obedience to the party line from their customers!!

It's so sad how insecurity, pride, and inflated egos seriously hurt so many different industries. I've seen it time and time again, from movies to video games to big events. Ego gets in the way of art of all formats reaching its full potential.

For example, not many people agree with me but I really dislike Peter Jackson because his ego hindered the LOTR trilogy from being much, much better. That's another thread though...

Ah well, RED's reputation is only going to suffer from this fiasco.

Phillip Bloom: "I had some incredibly unhelpful remarks from people (not RED) saying it was my fault for going on a paid job with no second EPIC as a backup..."

Wauw, I guess fanboys will be fanboys. The guy who wrote that is likely some snotty kid who only has wet dreams of an EPIC!
