D750: Anyone Using It? Loving It? Hating It?

Nikon color science and Zeiss goodness making the older Nikon D4 shine. Should be even better on the D750 regarding resolution and much better regarding quality of codec.

Anyway, why not get a Canon 1DC combining both: awesome color and good 4K resolution and the possibility to

adapt some Zeiss glass in Contax Yashica mount or the Zeiss ZE lenses without adapters?

Yeah, to find beautiful vids I search for lenses and equipment. Typing GH1 into vimeo search gives me some of the

most beautiful shot stuff to look at. For photos the same. Back then I used to look up Yashica Electro 35 CC alot at Flickr, looking for photos. CC is important because

it´s the model with a 35mm 1.8 lens. Beautiful camera to take pictures with. Awesome lens too.

I found the D4 video looking for Distagon 28mm. I think I will jump on the Zeiss wagon some day. But that glass mighty expensive!

Still adore your Canon FD 35-70 F4 video, lensfootageporn at its best! By the way, not much cool video footage out there

with the Angi-Tokina 28 70 2.6-2.8. That has to change, I bought one yesterday!:)

Blue sniff's out of focus backgrounds look pretty effortless with this camera and lenses.

I have just bought one as well -testing it to see how much "Angi" genes it's inherited.

Yeah that Tokina seems like a special lens. I think Geoff CB has an old video with his D810 and the Tokina/Angenieux. I have a search saved on eBay but whenever a good one pops up, I'm short on cash. It will be mine eventually. Report back how you like yours.

Yup, still enjoy using it. Best point in this video is at 1:13 showing the lack of breathing and how it renders. Used it somewhat on my A7r II, but haven't posted video yet.

So I am still at a dilemma deciding what I am going to do...

I have a friend who is quite successful at real estate videos who uses an a7s shooting at 1080p with 16-35 and a Movi 5. He says he only spends about an hour in post editing together his walkthrough videos.

I should probably just do that as well. Just... I don't like the colors from the a7s that much, and from what I can see, I really do like the colors of the D750 so much more.

So here is an option for a video / stills package for my real estate needs:

Plan A:

1) Sell D750 and various lenses, Sell D7000, sell a6300, sell a6000, sell 10-18 lens and other various lenses,

2) Buy original a7s and 16-35 for video, plus buy a7 II for stills (use the 16-35 for stills on the a7 II)

3) Possibly sell my crane and beholder DS1 and get Ronin M (if the a7s and crane don't play nicely together)

Main drawback being no 4K realistically (i would just get an a7s II instead of an a7s and Atomos shogun)

Plan B:

1) Sell D750 and D7000, and buy a SECOND a6300 for when the first one overheats from shooting 4K

2) Buy some sort of HDMI monitor so I can see what I am doing since LCD screen is abysmal.

3) Use my a6000 for 1080p (slightly better than the 1080p of the a6300 but noisy in low light and subject to aliasing and moire).

Main drawback: Less user-friendly for shooting and editing 4K. Colors not as nice (even with Andrew's color profile setup). Highlights not quite as recoverable as on D750.

Plan C

1) sell sony gear and buy a Nikon 16-35mm lens

2) Sell Zhiyun crane and Beholder DS1 Gimbal and buy Ronin M.

3) Use D750 for stills and video

Main Benefit: Easiest and cheapest solution (since already own the D750).

Main Drawback: In theory, any kid with an iPhone and a wide angle adapter lens will get "better" quality video than I will be able to produce...

Yeah unless you need the lowlight capabilities of the a7s, it kind of seems like a lateral move. Now I have never done real estate work, but I assume that full frame aesthetic is important in that field, or just something you personally want?

If you were doing video only, I guess the decision would be a lot easier, but needing a FF stills camera as well, kind of muddies up your options.

If you were okay with staying with 1080p, which I assume you are, I would probably keep the Zhyiun Crane and get an a5100 instead. You will have touchscreen PDAF that should work great with the crane.

Or if you want the 4K, I would get the a6500 instead of keeping the a6300... you will have touchscreen PDAF... 5-axis IBIS with your Nikon lenses (if you decide to keep any) and they all will work great with the Crane as well.

As I said before another option for 1080p is the RX10, a great Zeiss lens with the same codec as the a7s. Or the RX10ii if you want slow motion 1080p and 4K. I think one of these with either an a6500 or a5100 could be a great two camera set up for real estate, plus they're so inexpensive you can keep your D750 for stills.

But I still think you should probably just keep your D750 and use that until the 4K D810 replacement is announced later this year and then you have a more logical 4K upgrade FF path. Even if there is a crop, it will probably be no more than S35mm in 4K, which still isn't bad.

Also, I would think the softer image may help with real estate... just how brides look beautiful with Canon close ups... the D750 will hide a lot of flaws that are inherent in real estate.

Another option to add would be the Fuji XT20. 4K and probably a good stills camera in one. Great OOC colors to speed up your post workflow. Would probably work well with the Zhyiun Crane. I know a lot of Nikon stills shooter end up with a Fuji eventually, so that could be a perfect fit until the D750 or D810 gets updated.

I'd take a look at the Fuji X-T20 and the 10-24mm F4

4K, can turn things round quick because of its OOC looks, light enough to mount on the Crane, A/B as a stills combo against a D800 and Nikon's 14-24 f2.8 and its not embarrassed in the slightest, you can put an ND on it without jumping through (expensive) hoops, the lens has IS, touch screen focus etc etc

And you can put a lens turbo on it to use all of your Nikon lenses.

I used the 14-24mm far more than you'd imagine a sports photographer might (stadium views, low ringside at boxing,in the melees after a trophy presentation etc) and the key word there is 'used' as its been put into retirement  now by an X-T20 and 10-24mm for ALL of that stuff.

Might not be the total answer to what you want (and by the wrestling you're having there probably isn't one) but its worthy of a look if you have a local camera store that stocks them.

I could've saved myself a load of typing if I'd seen this first!!

Thank you both. I will look into the fuji.

The key I think is low light / dynamic range /  moire suppression performance (and better 1080p than the a6000 / a6300 at 1080p). And ease of use and ease of grading.

So I will start looking into the dynamic range and low light video of the Xt20.

Thanks again.

FWIW, I regularly have to shoot stills at ISO5000 and the Fuji's haven't scared me off from that point of view.

They don't have the bordering on night vision levels of the A7S etc but they're competitive enough at 'normal' high ISO levels.

Have you shot video in that range yet? If so, would love to see some.
