Super Members BTM_Pix Posted August 17, 2017 Super Members Share Posted August 17, 2017 When I heard about this, I wasn't sure how well it would perform but from reviews I've seen there does seem to be some actual sorcery involved. Considering what you can adapt to M mount cheaply (i.e. everything !) this is pretty intriguing. Does anyone have one?
darrellcraig
Huge thread over on FredMiranda with a highly detailed FAQ developed over time by the users, and detailed info on performance with various lenses. All from a stills perspective of course. I had one and used on an A7RII (sold a while ago) with a variety of glass (you can get adapters to convert to M mount, e.g. C/Y>M, OM>M, F>M, FD>M, etc.). AF is highly variable based on lens and aperture selected. There were also some long term reliability issues. It makes a great helicoid adapter to bring the generally long minimum focus distance (MFD) of rangefinder glass in to more useful range. BasiliskFilm
I guess the drawbacks for long term reliability are that the adaptor moves the whole lens (especially with heavy lenses) and that you use the same motor for driving all the lenses (unlike AF lenses that each have their own motor) so it would not be surprising if it wears out more quickly. Nice idea though. I would be surprised if it can track motion smoothly enough for video though.
Super Members BTM_Pix Posted August 19, 2017 Author Super Members Share Posted August 19, 2017 I imagine it would look like someone playing thrash metal on an accordion if it was in AFC mode for video.
