Christopher Short
Hi, New to the anamorphic game. Here is my gear for reference: Camera: Panasonic Lumix GH5 with SpeedboosterXL for Canon LensesAnamorphic: Kowa B&H with Redstan 52mm clampTaking Lenses: Modern Canon 60mm Prime, Vintage Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4, Vintage Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-P 105mm f/2.5 (both using a Fotodiox Pro Nikon to Eos adapter) My question stems from using the 50mm and infinity focus. In comparison, both the Canon 60mm and the Nikkor 105mm focus fabulously, especially the 105mm which seems to match the Kowa focus measurements pretty accurately. I'm not having the same luck with the 50mm. With the Kowa attached, I seem to get the best infinity focus (which isn't great) when the Kowa reads around the 50 ft mark and the aperature is almost fully closed. I have since did tests with only the 50mm with no anamorphic and found that infinity focus was difficult to obtain and next to impossible at wide open. So the main question: Is this typical with this lens (or other 50mm lenses) or is there something wrong with it? Will I not be able to use it for distant landscape shots but only with subject within the 10 ft area? The fact that I can get identical measurements between the Kowa and the 105mm but not even close with the 50mm has me puzzled as well. Thanks for any insight!
