Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 24, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 24, 2012
The Panasonic GF2 may be a small camera but the hack is big news. Now GH2 shooters can get a 2nd body for next to nothing and have a b-cam that shoots at the same bitrate and same format, with the same lens mount and the same sized sensor.Read full article
cantsin
Hey, Can your share your 44MBit hack settings for the GF2? That would be marvelous.

Sky Net
Sir can you tell me how the video from the hacked gf2 compares to video from a canon 60d? Thank you
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 24, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 24, 2012 Compared to 60D (which = 7D, 600D of course) the GF2 with hack is pretty similar overall. Colour and shadow detail is better on the Canons though. Remember however the big advantage of GF2 over those is the more adaptable mirrorless lens mount. Sky Net
Thank you sir for the very quick answer you're awesome.
jbCinC_12
So, in order to do the hack, you need to do it under a SD card? Quite interesting, though I'm short on funds, I hope it stays in the 300 range next week, I will certainly snag it up.
game-b
The 60fps is the american camera and the 50fps is the european? Is that correct?
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 25, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 25, 2012 No it is 30 fps and 25 fps. 60 and 50 are just the interlaced wrappers, in the sense that is how the 30 fps and 25 fps are delivered inside the AVCHD format. jbCinC_12
Hello AReid, I hope you can answer this. I'm quite new at this, but referring to your article on lenses and the GF2... "2. Use a lens with a manual aperture ring, that the camera cannot control electronically" Knowing that I would need a mount adapter, but would a legacy lens Canon EOS F 50mm work on it? mike_tee_vee
Pound for pound, how would the hacked GF2 footage compare to the NEX 5N?
Leang
ideally you think every photographer would always be critical when changing lenses or condition awareness. just scarier to buy used (sensor) digital cameras. its not necessarily like the all analog days, but ı guess at this price point its worth the risks. thanks for sharing
ikonoklast
What about the GF3? Is it a totally different system?
game-b
I see that they are selling GF2 with two different specifications: 1080i (60fps), 720p (60fps) and 1080i (50fps), 720p (50fps), I don't understand if this are two different cameras or just switchable settings? madrivermotorcompany
GF3 should be hacked soon... What I'm looking for is a travel anamorphic setup - seems all the generic anamorphic adapters have disappeared - anyone want to aid in my search? game-b
I am buying a B-cam, what do you think its better, gf2 or wait for gf3?

abc123kazu
i have been looking at the GF2 as am alternate pocket camera for a while. I have been also looking at the Olympus Mini Pen, and i never hear it discussed here. I read that its photo quality is better, and i would think the Image Stabilization will be helpful for video no? drewhansen82
I am an American camera user (NTSC). I use my GH2 usually in 24p. If I use my Gf2 as a B-cam should I shoot in 30p? Is there a way to shoot in 25p and use some sort of wrapping tool. I am new to this and cannot figure out how to mix gf2 footage with the GH2. Also if I shot gf2 footage alone and not to be used with GH2 can I shoot it in 25p and later conform it to a useable NTSC format? Thanks for any help on this.
