I have been shooting GH2 with a Driftwood Quantum hack using Nostalgic picture profile

I am about to buy a G6

Does anyone who has used the G6 know which picture profile on the G6 is similar to Nostalgic on the GH2?

EOSHD Pro Color 5 for Sony cameras EOSHD Z LOG for Nikon CamerasEOSHD C-LOG and Film Profiles for All Canon DSLRs

im way to lazy to look for it, but i read at least a couple of times that despite the same sensor it doesnt seem to be multi aspect. so yeah its true. i believe someone pointed that out by looking at the different possible photo resolutions. 16:9 and 4:3 hat the same x-axis definition of pixels.

I owned the G6 last week.
The peaking works pretty well and the back screen is really wonderfull.

BUT !
Unfortunately, the codec is not good enough compared to the GH3.
The picture is noisy even at low iso like 160... (with the mp4 ANd avchd modes)
The amount of definition disapointed me.
It's a shame because I think the G6 could be a dslr killer with a good hack.

I finally owned a GH3 with cleaner and much sharper video.

The evf is really good but I decided to buy an extternal monitor for landscape shootings outdoor in bright light.

The G6 is a good camera but suffers by the lack of a good codec.  :-/

My G6 arrived and it is a superb camera , Image is much better than GH2 - no mosquito noise in the blacks

and better in lo light

the image is very very good -

for the price it is a suberb camera -

oled evf and new screen are great very sharp

50p for slo mo is great

peaking is very useful as is the artificicial hozizon

Im only using AVCHD 24p

menu is great some nice new additions

I highly recomend it

I have done extensive tests with my hacked gh2 (driftwood quantum 9b 150mb/s) and the G6 using the same Carl Zeiss Vario sonnar lens on both and the G6 is much better image wise Panasonic have done a superb job with the G6 - its has a much finer gain structure alot less mosquito noise in the black and dark areas and is just as sharp as the hacked gh2

Its a no brainer the g6 is very very good - just buy one

Hello,

I am pulling this thread up again, in the hope to get an answer to the last question.

Is the GH3 codec really so much better as the codec in the G6?

Is it worth the price?

I know this is a probably a subjective thing, but I  would be really interested in some opinions.

The best would be (of course) a statement from someone who owned the two cameras.

Thanks in advance.

I've herd GH3's codec is superior to G6, but from the looks of it the detail may be better on the G6.

No no no !

I swear that G6 is really far from the crisp picture of the GH3.
I don't know how to upload samples but don't make the same mistake I done with the G6.

It doesn't match the GH3 wich is really far better. ;)

I agree julian...there's enough samples on vimeo to download to see that the g6 is not too shabby. Of course the gh3 is better...it costs twice as much ! From what I'm seeing the g6 is better than the unhacked gh2 ...and in some cases even better than a mildly hacked gh2. I wish andrew would do a proper review .....andrew ?
