Benjamin Hilton
Does all this pixel peeping over camera nuances really matter on set if you know your camera sensor as a DP? Check out some screenshots from my latest commercial and see if you can guess the camera it was shot on. How good is your camera knowledge? :-) (All these images are just with a 10 second grade, so don't be too hard on them) Adept and mercer
Super Members Mattias Burling Posted February 17, 2018 Super Members Share Posted February 17, 2018 Yey, its been way to long since our last Guess the Camera. I guess its still a refrigerator as first price? I will look on a bigger screen and get back to you shortly. EDIT: Some of it reminds me of the pocket camera and some things doesn't. But that will be my guess.
webrunner5
Yeah the bottom one does look BMPCC, the others have a Heck of a lot of noise in them so... I am thinking LoL. Olympus EPL1, hell I don't know.
Super Members Mattias Burling Posted February 17, 2018 Super Members Share Posted February 17, 2018 It looked like added grain to me, if its noise its good looking noise imo.
EthanAlexander
Love these games. Looks like Panasonic so I'm going to go with GH5 or EVA.
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 17, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 17, 2018 Looks good. Not oversharp. 5D Mark II raw?
webrunner5
Please don't tell us it is a Arri Alexa LF with a 30k Cooke Anamorphic lens on it. IronFilm
cantsin
I'd also say that this was shot raw. No compression artifacts, very fine tonality and color gradations, no in-camera artificial sharpening, no in-camera noise reduction over-smoothing textures. My guess would be 5D MkII/III MagicLantern raw, or Blackmagic Pocket/Cinema Camera 2.5K raw.
graphicnatured
First one kind of had me thinking BM Pocket, but now I'm thinking they are Canon ML too.
cantsin
Could also be a first-generation Canon C300/C100 (which produced a beautiful image despite its 8bit limitation). Hard to tell, either this is a low-budget cam with Raw or an older professional/semiprofessional camera with great internal image processing. We're a DIY no-budget forum here, so the first guest would always be some sub-$2000 camera, either hacked or Blackmagic. (But it strikes that there's zero moiré in the images, which suggests a hacked 5D MkIII or a Cx00.)

Benjamin Hilton
Sorry, I was flying and just caught up with this. It's a GH5 with V-Log with a Canon 24-105 1st generation lens. I am falling in love with this camera more and more every shoot; I don't quite see what so many people have against it. With a speedbooster you get super 35 4K 10 bit log with a robust, yet not bloated, codec. Plus, a really tough body and battery that will get through some of the hardest shoots without overheating or dying:-) And the image is just beautiful! 12 stops of dynamic range are definitely enough for most normal shooting, I rarely end up blowing anything out, even when exposing on the bright side. The V log is a bit noisy, but the noise looks a lot like film grain, I think it adds a nice texture. Also, all the screenshots are taken from footage shot in 1080P 10 bit, not 4K. mercer, webrunner5, Adept and 1 other
Papiskokuji
Very encouraging ! Maybe the nicest screen grabs I've seen from the GH5. Especially the first pic of the post and the last one of your last post ! Finally not an overdone color grading. More cinematic and yet natural looking. Really nice ! Makes me wanna buy one ! By the way @Benjamin Hilton what do you think about the 10 bit codec ? Is it strong enough ? Compared to let's say Prores ? Do you get pink macroblocking ? That's my nightmare ! And I'm curious to know your workflow for this grade ! Thx !
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 18, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 18, 2018 Were the original screenshots shot with the Canon 24-105mm? Makes it all the more impressive, as that's by no means a fast prime. Nice rendering. The 10bit looks as good as raw in your grade. webrunner5
