Super Members Mattias Burling Posted March 11, 2018 Super Members Share Posted March 11, 2018 So 4 out of 10 still use film. And as I recall this is the smallest percentage it has been since people started saying "film is dead". Doesn't look very dead to me. (I see you next year when history repeats itself for the tenth time ) Aussie Ash and Castorp
kye
That settles it. I'm only shooting in ARRIRAW 3.4K from now on! IronFilm
Aussie Ash
"Ladybird" We shot with the Alexa Mini with old Panavision lenses and, in testing different resolutions, we ended up shooting 2k — ARRI raw 3.6K was too vivid and too sharp. Alexa has native grain, sort of video noise, any sensor emits video noise.

"A 2-hour feature film might easily have a 50:1 shooting ratio (capturing 50x as much footage as ends up in the final film), which means 6,000 minutes of recorded footage. Using our bitrate formulas, we can quickly calculate the space required." Aussie Ash
IronFilm
An indie film will try hard to push down that ratio to say 10:1 or less. Kisaha and Aussie Ash

It's easy to see how the footage can quickly clock up using multiple cameras to shot each scene, there are also some directors like Fincher and Kubrick that may do fifty or more takes per scene ! http://www.indiewire.com/2013/10/producer-says-david-fincher-is-averaging-50-takes-per-scene-shooting-gone-girl-248969/
