How to upload a7R III HDR video to Youtube, Help

Hi. I've found out a7R III support HDR video recording with HLG format.

I recorded a test video with PP10/HLG setting and I have an mp4 file and xml file.

Now what should I have to do to upload it as HDR video? I uploaded an mp4 file and it shows as SDR video.

I found Youtube help page but it's too vague. It introduce metadata tool and I guess it's the one I have to use.

but I'm not good at command line input and instruction is a little bit overwhelming.

please help me. I want easy process to upload HDR video.

Hi,

i have tested yesterday this workflow and it works.

this is the test i have made, and on my Sony TV is recognized as HDR Video in Youtube APP.

The footage is not the best, because was only recorded with a FS700 internal AVCHD.

@omega1978 Thanks, the video is clear, concise and well explained. The only hitch is that you're grading blind without a proper HDR monitor, which I'm assuming is why your clip looks a little bright with a cyan cast. I enjoyed it much just the same.

to clarified: the explain video are not my work.

i only have used this workflow to make the video " Stilfserjoch Porsche HDR"

you are right, that i have graded the footage on a SDR Monitor and is very difficult to judge the exposure.

for the colorcast i had every time the problem with Slog2/Sgamut.

i will try to record footage with the A6500 Slog2/Sgamut3.cine

@omega1978 Have you considered using the Shogun Inferno as a grading monitor?

have hopes for a 5 inch recorder with HDR, for FS5 and A6500 on gimbal.

i known the atomos inferno is bigger and sure better for grading,

but for run and gun is to bulky.

Yeah, you might as well forget going handheld with the Inferno, even though all of Atomos’ materials make it look easy as pie. ?

@jonpais i have reuploaded the video in HDR with the magenta cast corrected and reduced the export to 800-300 nits( before was 1000-400 nits)

Are the brightness correct now?

I’ll have a look once I get back home. But... I thought your first upload had a cyan cast, no?

@omega1978 I think I was wrong about the cyan cast in the first one. hehe

 I like the colors of the first upload more. But both still look kind of grayish, lacking in contrast, and perhaps too bright.

@jonpais you are right, is very hard to judge HDR without a HDR Display.

This is my last try, only with the scopes, to grade it right.

@omega1978 a little bit late but walkthrough is really helpful. I found out Youtube mark it as HDR video!

 

I have a couple of issues though. One, movie itself is still washed out. Maybe I need some grading?, Two, it plays as 1080p, not 2160p as file itself.

@eggry You really need an HDR monitor to grade with, no two ways about it.

I’ve been having trouble with YT not recognizing my 4K videos lately as well. Not sure what’s going on with them.
