Why does QuickTime and Preview desaturate videos on OSX?

I usually use preview, to well yeah, preview my edits for my producers. But for a while now I've known it desaturates the image. Same thing with Quicktime. 

 

As seen below, only VLC is showing the correct colors. (1.Preview 2. VLC 3. QuickTime)

 

Anyone knows why this happens? It's a ProRes file so it would just make sense that at least QuickTime would render the colors correctly. Only VLC does.
