  1. 1. Only if you intend to buy the new Pocket: If BM were to release the Pocket 4K at twice the price but with Canon great DPAF, would you get it instead?

The camera hasn't even been released! Who knows how good the auto focus will be? What'd you expect from BMD?

?

BMD's cameras do not have continuous autofocus, only very rudimentary push autofocus (so that lenses without a focus ring can be used at all).

This is true, but lets hope that they Can come up with real AF. Wouldn't that be a nice present from BM. I think they Have to do it at some time, and now would be a nice time. ?

Again, reliable continuous video autofocus with large sensor cameras is not a publicly available technology. So far, only two manufacturers (Canon and Sony) are able to do this with highly proprietary tech. Not even Arri or RED have autofocus is in their cameras. It's simply not a technology that can be expected by a small manufacturer any time soon. People who need this should look elsewhere.

It is using basically the very same sensor that is in the GH5s. Granted the AF on the GH5s is not so hot either, but a Lot better than nothing. So if there is some kind of info the senor has to output it ought to be there in the 4K BMPCC. So all they have to do is use some crude contrast detect auto focus. The tech for it has been around for years. Heck maybe Panasonic with license their Defocus thingy?

Personally, I’d sooner go with manual focus than rely on CDAF for video.

Given BM's design philosophy (of giving people minimal, but well-working features in a camera, and no auto functions at all - not even for WB, exposure and audio levels), I wouldn't be surprised if they think like you.

Exactly! We're much much sooner going to see AWB in a BMD camera than worthwhile AF, and even AWB hasn't happened yet.

Well all those facts add up to probably why they can sell this camera for only $995.00 LoL ?
