A good zoomlens with longer reach than the Sigma 18-35

Well there is the Fujinon 18-80 f2 but it is a bit on heavy and pricey side ?

Did you mean the 18-85? haha, yeah at $64K it is a little pricey!

Why not the Fujion MK18-55mm T2.9?

A fraction of the cost! Much much lighter. And gives you an extra 55mm of reach vs the 35mm max of the Sigma.

Easy to use it on a GH5:

I think my sums are right so this is what it would look like on an XL, so, yes, it would run out of road in the corners.

But he won't be filming in that aspect ratio.

Although there is still a little vignetting at 16:9, but might be kinda livable? Would need to test, and depends on the person.

I'd guess though at 2.39:1 it would be fine however.

(edit: although the point about GH5 vs GH5S will negate all that)

I know, I put that in the subsequent post and was just showing the coverage on a full frame stills camera as those were the only examples in a search.

Yea I should definately try out the Nikon 17-55mm. The Sigma 18-35 also vignettes at 18mm with the Speed booster XL on the GH5-s, but since I add crop bars to get 2:39:1, it is barely visible.

If the Nikon is the same at 17 mm, I even gain a mm on the wide end and 20 mm on the tele end. The trade off is 1.3 stops of light and DOF. I could live with that I think if it has good sharpness and a nice look to it.

And then I just came across the Tokina 16-50 f2.8. Has anyone tested that one before? Can't find any footage of that one (or the Nikon 17-55) on a Speed Booster with a GH5 / GH5-s. And there is also a Pentax version of it. Will read into it.

So ETC isn't an option?

Hmm I should do some tests. I have never really thought about it using it. Maybe I should.

They say there is no quality loss, just more noise at high ISO's. So, how would that work in terms of what it does to the lens and how it behaves?

Apparently it is a 1.4x crop. Does it just use a smaller portion of the sensor? So the 35mm would act as a 49mm? And f1.2 becomes f1.7?
Or does it work differently?

Correct, it uses a smaller portion of the sensor. I haven't done the math but it gives ya that little extra reach without quality loss. I'd test it out, you can assign it to a button to turn it on and off when you need it. It's also useful when using vintage lenses that don't completely cover the sensor. :)

As promised, here's my footage shot with a BM Pocket and adapted Fujinon 8-120mm/f1.7 B4 mount lens, with activated 2x extender to make the lens fit the 1" sensor image circle, turning it into a 16-240mm/f3.4 lens. (With 2x extension, the lens will cover MFT as well.)

The video is practically unedited. The Fujinon lens is used until 18:10. (The rest has been filmed with a Nikon 50mm/1.2 on a Pocket Speed Booster):

Nice Cantsin, looks very organic! Did you use Filmconvert or so for that?

Not for the colors, only to add grain (to roughen the textures, since the lens is not an HD lens and thus renders surfaces rather soft.) The grade was very simple:

1) Transform the camera's log footage to Rec709 with Resolve's color chart matching function (using shots of an X-rite Color Checker Passport Video):

134152167_gradebreakdown_1_81.1.T.thumb.jpg.3b3994513b94604ff7e5f7fa488a5c3d.jpgThis is pretty much the 'vanilla' image of the camera with the lens.

2) Apply a film emulation LUT (DxO FilmPack Kodachrome 25) at 50% strength (=Resolve's Key Output at Gain 0.5 in the Color/Node Key tab) to bring it closer to a more contrasty home movie look:

3) Apply a slight vignette:

4) Apply FilmConvert's artifical grain (Fj 8543 VD emulation at 35mm Full Frame 100%, Film Color and Curve at 0) to roughen up the image:
