Highlighting the changes below and sharing more about the reasons behind the change: Historically, for non wide-screen videos (not 16:9) like vertical and square videos, we would show black bars alongside the video, making the video really small. This update moves away from the need for black bars. Then no matter which way you hold the damn thing, it can do landscape 16:9 video with same horizontal field of view. BUT, if you consider that most TV / movies are people standing next to each other it makes total sense. Now with the rise of vertical video and lots of videos of a single person talking to camera it almost seems like these might be connected?!?!!?
