IronFilm
https://twitter.com/BRUCKHEIMERJB/status/1004433006822612992 This is what a DoP commented over on the DVXuser thread: Quote They've gone with the Venice for a number of reasons. One being the detachable sensor block - which allowed them to squeeze a previously inconceivable amount of image quality into the cockpits of these fighter jets (think of it as the fanciest dash mount you've ever seen). Another being the effective global shutter of the Venice (I'm still confused as to how it's not a "global shutter", but also not a "rolling shutter", but whatever weird techiness lies behind it, it's effectively a global shutter (I tried an insane wobble test on one, and there's zero perceivable skew - so as far as I'm concerned it's a global shutter). And when you're using things called the 'CineJet' to capture air-to-air footage, that's apparently useful! webrunner5
Yeah Bruckheimer helped develop that removable sensor. Have no clue why someone never thought about it before. It is not wireless but they are trying to do it that way down the road. That might not be too easy at 6K.. ?
AaronChicago
Avatar sequels are shooting the VENICE as well.
IronFilm
Ah yes, of course, I forgot about them. But I'd bet Top Gun will come out before Avatar?
fuzzynormal
Don't talk to me about Top Gun unless Harold Faltermeyer is playing a synth and there's grad filters on the lens.

mercer
Man, that Venice image just takes my breath away and could make me lose that loving feeling for that Arri color science. Nautical and Trek of Joy

Robert Collins
It's interesting what the DP is quoted as saying about the lack of 'rolling shutter' and 'quasi global shutter' being so important. I am pretty sure that this will be the key feature of the A7siii with its stacked cmos tech and what is likely to make the camera pretty expensive (US$4,000?) IronFilm
There was an announcement of 3.0 firmware and a sensor head extension for the Venice at IBC, the 30 second (!!) cache recording could be handy for doco filmmakers who are waiting for that perfect moment to develop in front of them: https://www.provideocoalition.com/sony-venice-3-0-firmware-extension-head-announced/ Useful videos as well:
