Joowe
Big, big, big problem. I need a video camera under 3K, body only, for 4k mechanic laboratory video. No need auto focus or OIS. I have canon EF lenses. To use in MFT I need Booster but, GH5S + Booster = A7III or less. In low light both are more or less the same. The unique difference it is 240fps vs 120fps and I prefer 240. Relay it is so big difference, in the real world, between 240 and 120? I have a6500 and 120fps are bad, like my English I use external recorder atomos. Any advice, please? Super Members BTM_Pix Posted October 24, 2018 Super Members Share Posted October 24, 2018 If its the 240 FPS aspect that you are most interested in and don't mind it not having the form factor of a hybrid, have you thought about a used Sony FS5 or even the FS700 with your Shogun Inferno as an alternative? Both would fit into your budget and the FS700 would actually be a big saving. Mmmbeats and Geoff CB
Mmmbeats
Not such a big problem. You either buy one really good camera, or the other really good camera. Happy days. Joowe and Inazuma 1
wolf33d
Definitely buy an FS700. Lab cam size is no issue, no need for IBIS and AF but need good slowmo on external recorder? FS700 hands down
TheRenaissanceMan
Between those two, for your situation, I'd take a GH5s. 240fps and lower rolling shutter are big advantages. FS700 is the best choice if you're not bothered by size or weight, ESPECIALLY if you're already using an Atomos. TurboRat
I currently own a GH5s and love it for its reliability and low light capabilities. Plus pairing it with an Atomos Inferno means you can shoot 10bit 4k 60fps. But the A7III is a better hybrid camera so if you're also going to take pictures, that's the one to choose. Right now I would also like to own an A7III but with the P4K around, I think a GH5 / GH5s + P4k is a good set to have.

Guessing you meant IBIS when talking about a camera comparison Solid case then for a GH5S 8 hours ago, Joowe said: I have canon EF lenses. Or get a quality Viltrox EF-M2 for cheap if you want a focal reducer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/In-Stock-Viltrox-EF-M2-Electronic-Adapter-F-Booster-0-71x-for-Canon-to-M43/162788392575? 8 hours ago, Joowe said: In low light both are more or less the same. False. The Panasonic GH5S is clearly better. 8 hours ago, Joowe said: I use external recorder atomos. If you already have a 4K Atomos recorder and looking for slow motion performance on a budget, then seriously consider the Sony FS700 on eBay (US$1.5K ish secondhand) Also if you can stretch your budget, then the Sony FS5 is almost within reach:
noone
For low light comparison, I would do a Google search "GH5s vs A7iii low light". The ones I looked at mostly seem to have the FF camera on top (which is as it should be) though the GH5s does get a lot closer than it should. If it was my choice, I would try both if possible and then pick myself on what works better for me.
Joowe
Let me study all this info. Low light it is not so important, I use lights. FS5 in UK it is £££££££££££££££....... ☹️ FS700 it is 5 years old....

The current used price of one is about £3200 but Sony have just cut the price of new ones so expect the price of the used ones to dip under your £3K budget. With regard to the FS700, it might be 5 years old but I can't think of anything thats come along in that time that gives you the same performance options from a Super35 sensor and certainly not for anywhere near the £1200-1400 price that you can buy a used FS700 for. In this instance, I'd take the 5 years as a positive as everyone moving on to new and shiny things has chipped away at the price of the FS700 in a disproportionate way compared to its actual performance. There is an interesting retrospective of it here : https://www.redsharknews.com/production/item/4604-sony-fs700-camera Joowe and IronFilm 1

Yes, but the FS700 is a unique camera for its level and time in how it is still managing to hold some relevance in 2018! Joowe
Joowe
FS700 + upgraded FW can be very good gear for my needs, and for the price. Thank you
Joowe
I decided for GH5S because - it is tested and retested for video - I can buy new and it is 2017-2018 product - I can find LUTs and lot of info ( I bought Leeming LUTs fot the moment) - large video settings possibility for a mixed video/still camera IronFilm, webrunner5 and TurboRat
